A reported injury to Fabio Maldonado (18-4) was confirmed by Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Monday, as the promotion was forced to pull the bout from the card with less than a week to go.

Maldonado was to meet UFC newcomer Caio Magalhães (5-0) at UFC 142 this Saturday, with Magalhães stepping in as a replacement last month for an injured Stanislav Nedkov.

Just when it looked like it was smooth sailing for light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado, an injury has forced him from Saturday’s UFC 142 event in Rio, prompting the cancellation of his bout against Caio Magalhaes. The bout will not be replaced, and the card will go on with 10 fights.

UFC 142 is scheduled to take place this Saturday (Jan. 14, 2012) at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bout was to have taken place on the preliminary card which will now feature five bouts.
