With the recent withdrawal of the Ultimate Fighting Championships planned return to Abu Dhabi under the heading of UFC 128, the promotion was left to plan another event or rebrand some of their previously announced events.
So instead of booking a new event the promotion has opted to change the numbers for two upcoming shows.
The upcoming New Jersey event set for March 19th had been initially rumored to be UFC 129, but has now been confirmed as UFC 128. And the previously announced UFC 131 event in Toronto, the UFC’s first appearance in that city, has now been changed to UFC 129. UFC 127 in Australia will still keep it’s UFC 127 title.
This means that the promotion has opted out of one March pay-per-view event, but it doesn’t mean that the month isn’t filled with UFC shows. March 3rd is expected to see the third UFC event on Versus and UFC Fight Night 24 is expected to take place on March 26th.
It also means that the UFC has decided to drop two planned events as UFC 131 becomes UFC 129. No news has surfaced as to where that event might have been held, but fans shouldn’t take it as a bad sign, it is just a reshuffling of the UFC schedule with plenty more events expected for the upcoming year.
