UFC signs Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo; will fight Scott Jorgensen at UFC 177

The UFC’s flyweight division just landed a blue-chip prospect.

Henry Cejudo, the 2008 Olympic wrestling gold medalist for Team USA at 55 kg, has signed with the company, UFC.com reported.

He’ll be tested right away, as he meets veteran Scott Jorgensen at UFC 177 in Sacramento on Aug. 30.

The 27-year old Cejudo, who trains in Phoenix, made his pro MMA debut last year. He racked up six wins, with four finishes, in just under 11 months, with the last a decision over Elias Garcia at Legacy FC 27 on Jan 31.

Cejudo, who was the youngest American wrestling gold medalist at age 21, takes a big step up in competition against the veteran Jorgensen. The 31-year old from Boise has been in there with everyone from Urijah Faber to Dominick Cruz to Renan Barao and has been a tough out for the best of them.

“[Jorgensen] is a tough fighter and I know it’s going to be a fight,” Cejudo told UFC.com. “He’s a wrestler, he wrestled Division I, and it’s not going to be an easy fight, that’s for sure. But I’m ready.
