A lightweight bout appears to be in the works between UFC sophomore fighters Bernardo ‘Trekko’ Magalhaes (11-2) and Henry Martinez (8-2).
Verbal agreements are in place between the fighters, with MMAWeekly.com confirming the news on Thursday after an initial report by FightBulletin.net.
UFC on FX 3 is expected to take place on June 8, 2012 with fans voting for the host city through the Hometown Throwdown contest.
Magalhaes debuted with the UFC in February, losing a unanimous decision to late replacement, and fellow UFC newcomer, Tim Means at the UFC on FUEL TV 1 show. The loss ended a five fight win streak for Magalhaes who defended his Cage Fighting Championship title in his last victory. Despite being born in Brazil, Magalhaes makes Australia home, competing in all but one of his fights “Down Under”.
Martinez also saw a win streak stopped in his UFC debut last month. The Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts product competed at welterweight against Matt Riddle at UFC 143, replacing an injured Jorge Lopez at the last minute. Riddle would earn a split decision, ending Martinez’ four fight win streak. Martinez has competed as a featherweight back in 2009, losing a decision to Wilson Reis at a Bellator 2 show.
