Valentina Shevchenko retained her UFC flyweight title with a decision win over Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC Uruguay.

In the main event of UFC Uruguay, Valentina Shevchenko defended her UFC flyweight title with a one-sided unanimous decision win over Liz Carmouche.

What was the high point of the fight?

Both Shevchenko and Carmouche were patient in the first few rounds, with the Uruguay crowd getting frustrated with the lack of action in the fight after two rounds. Regardless Shevchenko was the clear aggressor flooring Carmouche in the third round with a good combination but still landing nothing of real significance.

The championship rounds were slow with Shevchenko eventually getting Carmouche to the ground and beating her up with strikes to steer the fight in her favour. The fight ended with “Bullet” throwing open palm strikes to the face of Carmouche as she walked away from her opponent before the final bell even sounded.

Where do these two go from here?

One thing is for sure, the Uruguay crowd will agree that they will certainly not want to see a trilogy fight between Shevchenko and Carmouche. The only real title defense that makes sense next for Shevchenko is a matchup against top flyweight contender Katlyn Chookagian.

The loss to Shevchenko snaps a two-fight winning streak for Carmouche. In a somewhat shallow 125-pounds division, there aren’t many important matchups to make for the veteran Carmouche but maybe a fight against Jessica Eye, who also recently lost to Shevchenko, is a good one to make next.

Watch it now, later or never?

It was bad. Never.
