But for two terrible judges, the UFC Fight Night 131 main event between Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes this Friday (June 1, 2018) at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y., could have featured a combined 29-fight mixed martial arts (MMA) win streak. Nevertheless, it’s still a helluva fight. The supporting cast includes blue-chip Lightweight Gregor Gillespie against powerhouse Vinc Pichel, Heavyweight knockout artist Walt Harris against Daniel Spitz, and a clash of Welterweight veterans in Ben Saunders and Jake Ellenberger.

But, enough about all that, let’s get while the gettin’ is good and dive into the odds behind UFC Fight Night 131.

What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 130?

Gotta stay positive, right? All I’ll say is that Nordine Taleb threw that fight away with that boneheaded kneebar attempt and that the judges who scored the main event 49-46 Till need to go to a desert island with Cecil Peoples and Adelaide Byrd, where they can form an isolated society until their collective myopia causes them to mistake an incoming meteorite for a rescue plane.

UFC Fight Night 131 Odds For The Undercard:

Sijara Eubanks (-160) vs. Lauren Murphy (+140)
David Teymur (-300) vs. Nik Lentz (+250)
Belal Muhammad (-410) vs. Chance Rencountre (+330)
Des Green (-275) vs. Gleison Tibau (+235)
Jessica Aguilar (-125) vs. Jodie Esquibel (+105)
Nathaniel Wood (-300) vs. Johnny Eduardo (+250)
Jose Torres (-185) vs. Jarred Brooks (+160)

Thoughts: I like the returns on Sijara Eubanks and Jessica Aguilar, albeit the former a bit more than the latter.

As I mentioned in my “Prelims” article, Lauren Murphy simply does not have the wrestling necessary to implement the most effective part of her game. Not only can Eubanks match her size and strength, “SarJ” also brings to bear a far superior submission game and legitimate finishing power in her hands and feet. So long as she makes it to the scales this time, Eubanks should dominate this.

Disappointed as I was in Aguilar’s performance against Cortney Casey, the fact remains that she owned the women’s Strawweight division before the weight class showed up in UFC. There’s also the fact that she’s up against a long-time Atomweight who could easily have a losing record if any two of her three split decision wins went the other way. If Ashley Yoder can beat Esquibel, Aguilar can do it easily.

UFC Fight Night 131 Odds For The Main Card:

Jimmie Rivera (-115) vs. Marlon Moraes (-105)
Gregor Gillespie (-500) vs. Vinc Pichel (+400)
Walt Harris (-310) vs. Daniel Spitz (+255)
Julio Arce (-175) vs. Daniel Teymur (+155)
Sam Alvey (-140) vs. Gian Villante (+120)

Thoughts: There’s not that much that stands out, but I’ve been on the Marlon Moraes hype train since he styled on Miguel Torres in the first-ever World Series of Fighting (WSOF) event and damned if I’m not going to stick by him. Jimmie Rivera has brawled with lesser striking technicians than Moraes, whose dexterous kicks should allow him to keep “El Terror” at range. In addition, Moraes can also match Rivera’s wrestling and looks to have a bit more stopping power in his strikes. I’d been saying Moraes was UFC champion material since he first earned a belt and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.

  • Single bet — Sijara Eubanks: $80 to make $50
