The top of the UFC Vegas 30 fight card saw the promotion’s #3 rated heavyweight, Ciryl Gane win a unanimous decision over the #5 rated Alexander Volkov. The entirety of the fight took place on the feet as Gane used his fight IQ to land the harder shots and rightfully earn the decision win.

Both men were exchanging some heavy leg kicks in the first round as the fight stayed on the feet. Gane attempted a takedown after landing a overhand right but Volkov did a good job of defending against the cage.

The second and third rounds were much the same with Gane landing the better strikes, however Volkov was still very much in the fight. Gane landed a hard step-in knee as Volkov was pressed against the fence.

Gane’s dominance continued in the fourth and fifth rounds as Volkov couldn’t keep up with the output of the Frenchman. Gane was on the receiving end of an eye poke late on but he managed to continue and see out the remainder of the fight.

Check out Tim Burke’s play-by-play of the fifth round of Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov:

Low kick from Volkov. Uppercut from Gane lands. Jab to the body. Jab and a low kick from Volkov. He lands a left. Body kick from Gane. Jab. Gane with a very nice combo. Volkov with a left. Double jab from Gane. Smashing body kick from Gane. Gane jab and circling. Front kick. Huge right scores for Gane. Body kick from Volkov. Volkov stuffs a shot attempt. Back to the jab for Gane. Left from Volkov. Body kick and a left from Gane, but it’s an eyepoke. Gane is getting checked by the doc. We’d go to the cards if it’s stopped this late. Volkov got the “how many fingers” test right, unlike Daniel Pineda, so we’ll close it out. Gane with a high body kick. Volkov kicks low. Leg kick from both. 10-9 and 49-46 Gane.
