Green was involved in a five-vehicle collision that left two women dead last August.

According to the Sun Sentinel UFC lightweight Desmond ‘Des’ Green, 29, has been charged with 20 counts in relation to a fatal five-vehicle collision in Broward County, FL last year. Emelina Morfa, 67, and Emma Suarez Hernandez, 76, were both killed in that incident.

The collision occurred on Interstate 75, south of the Sheridan Street Overpass, in Pembroke Pines at around 6am. A police report states that the crash was caused when Green lost control of a 2011 Dodge Durango and veered into the path of a tractor-trailer.

The Sun Sentinel reported that this started a chain reaction collision between that vehicle, a Honda Acura with two occupants, a Volkswagen Jetta with one occupant, and a Toyota Yaris that had four occupants including passengers Morfa and Hernandez.

Green sustained minor injuries in the incident. When an off-duty police officer stopped at the crash scene, witnesses told him that they saw Green throwing a metal object over the highway’s concrete barrier. A metal grinder with marijuana residue was discovered close to the scene.

According to the police report, investigators also recovered a plastic bag of white powder, which tested positive for cocaine, from the front passenger seat of Green’s Durango.

Sun Sentinel stated that Green showed signs of impairment, slurred speech, and an odor of alcohol when inspected by investigators at the scene. A toxicology test on Green reportedly showed the presence of drugs and alcohol in his system.

Green’s arrest report states that his “faculties were impaired” at the time of the crash. The report also stated that Green was driving on a second suspended license and that he was not wearing a seat-belt.

Less than thirty days after this incident Green appeared at UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Oliynyk in Moscow, Russia. There he lost a decision to Mairbek Taisumov in a catchweight contest. Since then Green has fought two more times for the UFC.

Green is currently being held at Broward County Jail on bonds totaling $194,000. His charges include two counts of DUI manslaughter, four counts of DUI serious bodily injury, and five counts of DUI property damage.

In Florida DUI manslaughter is a second degree felony which carries a mandatory-minimum sentence of 124½ months in prison. If convicted a judge may also sentence someone to an additional 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation, $10,000 fine, and permanent driver’s license revocation.

The UFC did not respond to Bloody Elbow’s request for a comment on this situation.
