It’s hard to ignore a rumor that just keeps rolling on throughout the day especially after UFC president Dana White confirmed that this was the fight his company was working on.
It appears that the Ultimate Fighting Championship has come to terms with middleweight champ Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva (33-4) concerning his next opponent.
Earlier today Tatame.com named undefeated fighter Chris Weidman (9-0) as that opponent indicating that the bout would take place this summer likely on the Independence Day weekend of July 6th.
At today’s live pre-fight press conference for UFC 157, White did say that a deal has not been done but it’s one they are working on.
Silva fought last October in a light heavyweight bout, earning a first round TKO finish over Stephan Bonnar at the Rio de Janeiro event. The win was ‘The Spider’s’ seventeenth straight victory. His last title defense took place in July of last year when he beat Chael Sonnen at UFC 148 in a title rematch.
Weidman has been campaigning for a shot at Silva and the UFC belt for some time now. The undefeated wrestler had his last fight in July of last year when he stopped Mark Munoz by knockout in the second round of their UFC on FUEL TV 4 main event match. It was Weidman’s fifth straight victory inside the Octagon.
