Check out the results from the UFC Newark main card, including Jim Miller choking out Clay Guida in the co-main event.

The UFC Newark main card is underway and longtime UFC veteran Jim Miller just choked Clay Guida unconscious in less than a minute into the co-main event. The bout was explosive with each man landing big haymakers before the choke happened. Miller has now competed in 33 UFC bouts; Guida has appeared in 28. Before that, the Tristar trained Nasrat Haqparast scored the first finish of his UFC career when he knocked out Joaquim Silva in the second round. The first round was a technical striking battle and then he found his moment with his southpaw left hand. This makes three-wins in a row for the 23-year-old Haqparast.

Also on the main card, Gerald Meerschaert put Trevin Giles to sleep with a guillotine choke in the third round. Giles actually tapped out, but it all happened so fast that the referee was not in a position to where he could see it. Opening up the main card, Scott Holtzman let his hands go in an exciting banger with Dong Hyun Ma. Holtzman dished out a ton of damage to the eye of Ma throughout, causing the doctor to stop the fight between the second and third rounds. The now 13-3 Holtzman has won four of his last five fights, with his last two wins ending inside the distance.

Main card:

Jim Miller def. Clay Guida by technical submission (Guillotine) at :58 of round 1: Lightweight

Guida opened the bout with a massive right hand that wobbled Miller. Then, Miller uncorked a big ol’ left hand of his own that hurt Guida. Miller quickly jumped on a guillotine and dropped down trying to finish. Guida never tapped, and instead took a nap.

Nasrat Haqparast def. Joaquim Silva by KO at :36 of round 2: Lightweight

The lightweights engaged in a technical striking bout throughout the opening round. Haqparast was looking to land his southpaw cross with Silva trying explosive techniques. Come round-two, Haqparast found a clean home for his left hand and made the most of it. He blasted Silva so hard that it instantly dropped him down to the floor. An onslaught of brutal ground strikes came flying in before the referee was able to rescue Silva. Wow!

Gerald Meerschaert def. Trevin Giles by technical submission (Guillotine) at 1:49 of round 3 : Middleweight

Giles took an early takedown and went right to side control. Meerschaert used a clever sweep to take full mount, and although he was able to eat up some clock, he failed to dish out any damage before getting swept himself. Giles found himself on top in the second round. He sprinkled down some strikes here and there but ultimate was swept. Meerschaert didn’t offer up much from the dominant position but did keep it until the bell sounded.

Giles found top position again to start the final round. He didn’t do much with it before Meerschaert reversed it. Meerschaert then started to hunt for the sub. After coming close with a guillotine, he then locked up one that was right on the money. Giles tapped, but the referee was not in a position where he could see it. The referee then recognized that Giles was unconscious and stopped the fight.

Scott Holtzman def. Dong Hyun Ma by TKO at 5:00 of round 2: Lightweight

Holtzman floored his foe with a monstrous right hand early in the opening round. He then worked a Von Flue choke for a bit before controlling from the top. Ma eventually returned to his feet where they traded for the final moments of round-one.

Holtzman got right back to work with his boxing, landing big right hands. Ma ate the punches and threw back some heat of his own. The athletes began trading in the pocket with both men landing but Ma scoring a brief knockdown. A massive mouse formed around the left eye of Ma at this point. Holtzman began landing once again and the crowd was showing their appreciation. Holtzman achieved a takedown within the final minute of the round and beat on Ma with some nasty ground strikes. The doctor stopped the fight due to Ma’s closed eye in between rounds.
