UFC’s Jon Anik Says Conor McGregor Should Vacate 145-Pound Title

While many have criticized Conor McGregor for moving up from the 145-pound weight class he is champion of to fight at 170 pounds in his last fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 196, UFC commentator Jon Anik has a different take on the subject.

Anik revealed what he feels “The Notorious” one should do when asked by a fan at the recent UFC Fight Club Q&A in Brisbane, Australia ahead of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 85 event headlined by Mark Hunt vs. Frank Mir.

“In terms of the featherweight division, I’m never a fan of guys cutting a bunch of weight,” Anik said. “You’re seeing what Robert Whittaker has been able to do at 185 pounds even though he was very successful at 170. I don’t like guys cutting too much weight, so I’d kinda like to see Conor vacate the title and fight at 155 or higher going forward.”

Anik also addressed his bet with Diaz going into the aforementioned UFC 196 fight with McGregor, a bet that resulted in Anik having to get Diaz’s hometown area code — 209 — tattoo’d on his body.

“I think my days of tattoo bets are probably over,” Anik Said. “At least when it comes to picking pay-per-view winners.”
