Niko Price is a wild man.
Soon after winning with an upkick knockout over James Vick, Niko Price has revealed that he has something even crazier that he wants to land in a UFC fight. “The Hybrid” has been known for his unorthodox style, but he now says he’s working on a way to legally land a soccer kick.
“I’m trying to find a way to do it around the new rules,” Price told ESPN. “Because if you hold their feet up, and they’re (hand) standing, it’s like they’re on their feet but they’re on their hands. So I asked the ref, can I kick him in the face if I have them in a wheelbarrow position? And I got a yes!
“So I’ve been working on that. When you see that, I’ll be the first to wheelbarrow head kick,” he said excitedly. “I asked the ref specifically. I also want to knee him in the ribs from the wheelbarrow. Oooh. I’m gonna get somebody.”
The definition of a grounded fighter according to the Unified Rules is as follows.
“Any part of the body, other than a single hand and soles of the feet touching the fighting area floor. To be grounded, both hands palm/fist down, and/or any other body part must be touching the fighting area floor. A single knee, arm, makes the fighter grounded without having to have any other body part in touch with the fighting area floor. At this time, kicks or knees to the head will not be allowed”
The wording does seem to allow that wheelbarrow soccer kick that Price wants. Pulling it off is a different matter though, but more creativeness in MMA can’t hurt, so let’s hope he manages to do it in his coming bouts.
