A previously reported injury to former Flyweight tournament semifinalist Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall was confirmed by Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Monday, while also confirming his replacement in newcomer ‘Useless’ Ulysses Gomez (9-2).
Gomez will meet McCall’s original opponent, another fighter making his UFC debut, John Moraga (10-1) at next months UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Vera event.
The announcement was made at UFC.com.
Just hours after the bout was announced, Orange County’s Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall was forced out of his UFC on FOX bout with John Moraga due to injury. In his place will be another local flyweight veteran, LA’s Ulysses “Useless” Gomez, making his UFC debut.
UFC on FOX 4 is expected to take place on August 4, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Gomez hasn’t competed since last December when he won the Tachi Palace Fights bantamweight title over Cody Gibson. ‘Useless’ had fought for the TPF flyweight title in his debut in February 2011, losing that match by decision and then moved up to bantamweight. At 135-lbs, he went 2-0 including winning the title.
Moraga will make his Octagon debut with four wins under his belt, the most recent last June at a Rage in the Cage 160 event with a unanimous decision. The Arizona Combat Sports / MMA Lab product has earned one TKO finish, five submission and four decision wins in his pro-career.
