Feeling rather giving, Ultimate Fighting Championship president confirmed a second Octagon matchup on Sunday after answering another fans questions.
@scottyp0806: @ufc @danawhite Brian Stann vs. Hector Lombard?
@danawhite: @scottyp0806 yup
So it looks like the UFC’s latest high profile acquisition will make his promotional debut against one of the top 185-lb fighters in the UFC’s middleweight division, as former Bellator champ Hector Lombard (31-2-1, 1NC) meets Brian ‘The All-American’ Stann (12-4).
Lombard was officially signed by the UFC earlier this week and will enter the Octagon on one of the longest undefeated streaks in MMA history at 25 bouts.
Lombard had his last fight in November, a 195-lbs catchweight bout with veteran Trevor Prangley in the main event of Bellator 58. The Cuban-Australian fighter earned his twentieth straight victory by finishing Prangley by TKO in the second round. Lombard was Bellator’s first middleweight champ with one title defense under his belt before the move to the UFC.
Stann earned an exciting knockout finish earlier this month in Stockholm, Sweden in the co-main event of UFC on FUEL TV 2. Stann finished opponent Alessio Sakara at 2:26 of the first round with a vicious ground-and-pound, earning his way back into the win column following a submission loss to top contender Chael Sonnen last October.
Since moving to middleweight, Stann is 4-1 and is considered one of the top competitors in the division. Besides the aforementioned bouts ‘The All American’ has earned finishes over Jorge Santiago, Chris Leben and Mike Massenzio fighting at 185-lbs.
Update: According to MMAjunkie.com, the Lombard vs. Stann bout will take place on August 4, 2012 at the Staples Center in Las Angeles as part of the upcoming UFC on FOX 4 event.
