Video: Emil Weber Meek knocks out Rousimar Palhares in Venator FC 3 main event

The Venator FC 3 main event saw a huge upset, as Emil Meek used elbows and punches to quickly knock out Rousimar Palhares. Watch the finish right here on Bloody Elbow.

For however controversial Rousimar Palhares‘ behavior has been over the years, he is on record as having submitted both Jon Fitch and Jake Shields, and otherwise undefeated at welterweight. That is, until he fought Norway’s Emil Weber Meek in today’s Venator FC 3 main event.

The dangerous leglock specialist went in for a takedown right off the bat, which Meek defended. As Palhares kept pushing for the takedown, Meek unleashed some hard elbows to the side of the head, which hurt the Brazilian, before landing several right hands to force the stoppage in just 46 seconds. Based on the betting lines, which had Meek as high as a +560 underdog with Palhares at -900, this was a massive upset and will go down as one of the biggest upsets of 2016.

Meek improves to 9-2-1 (1 no contest), while Palhares (18-8) suffers the first defeat as a welterweight, and his 5th knockout loss overall. What a big win for Meek, and a devastating loss for Rousimar, whom I shall remind everyone is suspended for 2 years by the Nevada Athletic Commission after he didn’t immediately disengage despite Jake Shields tapping out to a kimura at WSOF 22. That led to the removal of his WSOF welterweight belt, in addition to the Nevada ban, and now the 36-year-old has suffered a shocking upset defeat in Italy.
