The president of Karate Combat needed to choke out an angry cornerman earlier tonight (Fri., June 28, 2024) at Karate Combat 47 from inside Universal Studios Florida in Orlando. It was a wild scene to say the least.

The incident occurred following a welterweight clash between Luis Melendez and Jose Esparza. Both fighters entered Friday’s main card tilt with a professional record of 1-0. They were green, but offered some good action along the way.

Esparza ate a collection of hard punches and kicks only to push forward and force Melendez to maintain his output. It was a fun affair, but nothing that really jumped off the page. In the end, the fight went to the judges’ scorecards and was ultimately ruled in favor of Melendez by unanimous decision. Esparza, on the other hand, screamed in joy during the official ruling because he thought he had won the fight.

Melendez, who moves on to 2-0, had a few words to say to Esparza’s corner, which was in an uproar over the decision. That’s when one of Esparza’s cornermen tried to rush into the pit and get his hands on Melendez. UFC veteran, Sam Alvey, and Karate Combat president, Asim Zaidi, were in great position to stop the melee. They both rushed in and Zaidi ended up choking out Esparza’s cornerman to control the chaos.
