At a recent Q&A to promote his inclusion in the popular new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare video game, UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor seemed to indicate decreased interest in a rubber-match against his first two-fight rival in the UFC, Nate Diaz, compared to the level of interest he seemed to have when talking with the media after evening the score to 1-1 by defeating him via decision their rematch at UFC 202 in August.
When asked about a trilogy fight with Diaz, “The Notorious” one started off saying he thinks it’s possible, but went on to explain why it wouldn’t be the best move for the Stockton Bad Boy and thus, “his people close to him would stop him from doing it.”
“I think potentially so,” said McGregor in response to the question about a third fight with Diaz. “The more I think about it Nate is going to be… There was a lot of damage done to Nathan in that last fight. You know looking at his face it just didn’t look the same.”
McGregor added, “I know those close to him will understand what I am talking about. So there could be a potential fight maybe down the line for the lightweight belt after I win this one. To see him have to make the weight. And then to see the damage that he took in the last fight and then come in at a much lower weight.. It wouldn’t end good for him. So I’d imagine and I would probably hope that his people close to him would stop him from doing it. It’s done now. Cash your money and bounce.”
The lightweight belt that the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion spoke of currently belongs to Eddie Alvarez, whom McGregor will fight in the main event of UFC 205 in the UFC’s debut event in the state of New York in the world-famous Madison Square Garden arena on Saturday, November 12th.
