Former UFC lightweight James Vick was left unconscious last night (Fri., June 28, 2024) at Karate Combat 47 in Orlando, Fla., as “The Texecutioner” suffered a brutal knockout loss at the hands of a Rafael Alves jumping switch kick.
The terrifying scene played out as Vick and Alves met in the main event of the evening. Both fighters were coming off wins inside of the pit and it was pegged to be a headliner chock-full of hard kicks and heavy punches. While the bout only lasted a few minutes it delivered the memorable fireworks that fight fans were expecting.
Alves, who is known for his power, launched a perfectly-timed flying switch kick that connected flush and sent Vick into the shadow realm. Vick instantly slumped to the canvas and violently crashed his head off the pit canvas. That’s where he would lay for a solid few minutes as Alves and fight fans in attendance watched on with worry.
Luckily, Vick would regain consciousness and return to his feet. The former UFC contender hasn’t shown the greatest chin over the past few years, but this knockout was something else. It was downright terrifying and easily one of the best finishes Karate Combat has ever produced.
