Vinny Magalhaes has decided against retirement after all.
Magalhaes (10-7, 1 NC) has agreed to meet Jeff Monson (49-15-1) in a heavyweight bout on Nov. 9 in Hawaii, the fighter confirmed with MMAFighting.com. The fight will be a part of the Global Warrior Challenge 2: USA vs. Brazil event.
The 29-year-old Brazilian was released from the UFC following his 14-second knockout loss to Anthony Perosh at UFC 163 on Aug. 3. The loss marked his second in a row.
Following the fight, Magalhaes said he would retire if the UFC released him, but he has since told MMAFighting.com that he was too emotional at the time.
“I never really thought of retiring,” he said. “I made those comments within 24 hours after I had lost a fight, so I was still a little frustrated, and I was being too emotional with my responses. That’s why I haven’t said a thing since. I needed to clear my mind before starting to speak about my next moves.”
The 42-year-old Monson has also lost his last two fights in a row.
