Former UFC light heavyweight fighter, and ADCC submission champion, Vinny ‘Pezao’ Magalhães (9-5, 1NC) is reportedly set to return to the Octagon this September as part of UFC 151.
News of his return was announced by Tatame.com on Monday, with no opponent named by the website.
Vinny “Pezao” Magalhaes is back to the UFC. The light heavyweight, who lost to Ryan Bader on the TUF 8 Finale, signed a contract with the organization and is set to fight at UFC 151, on September 1st, TATAME learned with sources.
Magalhães left the UFC back in 2009 after a decision loss to Eliot Marshall at UFC 97. It was the third straight loss for the Brazilian, which included the defeat to Bader in the TUF 8 Finale.
Since that time, Magalhães has bounced around various promotions in the U.S. before finding a home under the M-1 Global banner going 7-1 in that time frame. With the Russian promotion, Magalhães won, and defended, the M-1 Global light heavyweight title, fighting for the last time in October of last year.
Magalhães split with M-1 Global after that bout, stating that he was happy with the promotion but unhappy with exec Evgeni Kogan who openly cheered against him in his title defense versus Mikhail Zayats. Magalhães would then go on to reportedly sell his title for $100,000 on e-bay.
