Vinny Magalhaes vs. Jason Brilz set for vacant Titan FC light heavyweight title

The Titan Fighting Championships will crown a new light heavyweight champion.

Vinny Magalhaes and Jason Brilz, initially expected to fight at Titan FC 28, will battle for the vacant 205-pound championship later this year, the Brazilian confirmed to MMAFighting.com on Monday.

“There’s no date yet,” he said, “but I believe it’s going to be on July or August.”

Magalhaes (10-7, 1 no-contest) makes his return to MMA after being released by the UFC in 2012, while Brilz (22-5-1) enters the cage riding a four-fight win streak.

Magalhaes was forced out of Titan FC 28 card fight staph infection, and Brilz competed against Bellator veteran Raphael Davis in the main event at the First Council Casino Hotel in Newkirk, Okla., on May 16. Brilz came out victorious via split decition.

In the co-main event, Dave Herman needed three rounds to defeat fellow UFC veteran Kalib Starnes. Brazilian Top Team prospect Gleristone Santos impressed in his first bout outside of Brazil with a TKO victory over Alvin Robinson, while his teammate Pedro Nobre dominated Dan O’Connor to win via decision.
