Two of the most exciting welterweights in the division are reportedly set to face off at UFC 264 on the McGregor vs. Poirier undercard.

According to AG Fight, Brazilian wildman Michel Pereira will take on Niko Price in a bout that has clearly been put together to deliver fireworks. The fight takes place July 10th on the UFC 264 card in Las Vegas, Nevada, in front of a full sell out crowd at the T-Mobile Arena.

Pereira’s flashy style earned him a pretty rabid fanbase before he even arrived in the UFC — highlights of him doing backflips off the cage and knocking fighters out with spinning attacks gained him a reputation for being Anthony Pettis on steroids.

A flying knee KO win in his UFC debut was followed up with two disappointing losses, though, and it was a real question whether he’d be able to hang in the big league and still throw down like a crazy person.

The answer, it turned out, was to tone down the cardio sapping attacks a little but still stay as unpredictable as ever. His last two fights have been wins that saw him battle nearly 15 minutes each with no fade out like in the past. This new version of Pereira may not be as ridiculous as before, but he’s still probably twice as ridiculous as any other fighter on the roster.

As for Niko Price, his reputation as a go for broke brawler has led to the UFC putting him in a series of firefights where he’s swung back and forth between wins and losses (and no contests), going 6-4-2 over his four years with the promotion.

His last bout would have been a win over Donald Cerrone, but sloppy fouls led to it being a draw … and then a little trouble with the NSAC and marijuana had the draw turn into a No Contact. The fight before that saw Vincente Luque bust Price’s eye up and force a doctor’s stoppage.

The important thing is we know Price will engage with Pereira on the feet even if it would be infinitely smarter to try and ground “Demolidor.” But with the UFC clearly looking to add a little more exciting sizzle to their Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier card, both men know what they’re expected to deliver.
