Welterweight Warlley Alves wants a rematch with Colby Covington after his dominatin win at UFC 237.
It’s not even one week after his dominant knockout win over Sergio Moraes at UFC 237 and Warlley Alves already knows who he would like to fight in the future. Surprisingly, it’s someone who not only the Brazilian faced before, but actually tapped out in just 86 seconds: former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington.
In an interview with Portal do Vale Tudo, the 28-year-old prospect said he wanted to make Covington pay for the things he said about Brazil over the years and vows to finish the fight even more quickly than when they met back in December 2015.
“Colby Covington, to me, is a personal matter,” Covington said. “I’m very patriotic, I love my country very much and I won’t let the things he said slide. He has his merits, he fought big names, he’s up there. I suffered a loss, so it would be arrogant for me to ask to fight him now. But I can tell you this, Colby Covington, it may take 10, 50 years, but we will meet again. When we do, it will be faster than the last time, and you know what I mean.”
Before the knockout win over Sergio Moraes at UFC 237, Warlley Alves (13-3) suffered a TKO loss to James Krause back in August 2018. As for Colby Covington (14-1), the 31-year-old has been away from the Octagon ever since his unanimous decision win over Rafael dos Anjos, in June 2018, when he won the interim belt, which was stripped of him later on. The plan now is for Covington to face new champion Kamaru Usman later this year.
