Football has Remember the Titans and Brian’s Song, baseball has Field of Dreams, basketball has Hoosiers, boxing has the Rocky series, and now MMA has its iconic movie that will live on for decades.

Warrior is being heralded as “a powerful, emotional story for everyone” with a story “as unforgettable as Rocky.”

The film centers around two estranged brothers, Tommy Riordan and Brendan Conlon, who each find themselves in a tournament of the top 16 middleweights in the world for the biggest purse in MMA history.

Tommy is a former marine who is troubled by his past and enlists the help of his father, Paddy Conlon, a recovering alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for the tournament.

On the other side, you have the family man Brendan, a former MMA fighter and now teacher in a public school, and his wife, having trouble making ends meet, so Brendan goes back into the ring to fight for his family.

As Brendan progresses up the ranks, he has the tournament championship in his sights, and in the climax of the film, he finds himself staring across the cage at Tommy with the championship on the line.

These two wage a war for the ages, but I won’t tell you what happens here. You’ll have to go see it.

Warrior is in theaters everywhere now. It is directed by Gavin O’Connor, and stars Joel Edgerton as Brendan Conlon, Tom Hardy as Tommy Riordan and Nick Nolte as Paddy Conlon.
