Undefeated Russian juggernaut Khabib Nurmagomedov will return to action at UFC 223 on April 7 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, when he takes on current interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson for Conor McGregor’s “real belt.”
In preparation for Khabib’s highly-anticipated throwdown with “El Cucuy,” UFC featured “The Eagle” in the latest and greatest edition of “KO of the Week,” which can be seen above in its entirety. This time around, the action focuses on Nurmagomedov’s 2013 clash with Brazilian veteran Thiago Tavares.
As most of Nurmagomedov’s fight go, Tavares didn’t stand much of a chance as the two sparked off the televised main card of UFC on FX 7. Unfortunately for Tavares, Khabib needed just under two minutes to land a crushing step-in left hand before piling on an absurd amount of elbows to the head before the referee jumped in for the first-round TKO stoppage.
Only time will tell if Khabib can have this sort of success on the feet against Ferguson, and if he can keep “El Cucuy” down when the action hits the canvas.
In addition to Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov, UFC 223 will also feature a co-main event title rematch pitting current women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas against former divisional queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
