Watch Tony Ferguson and Fabricio Werdum get into a heated confrontation at a UFC 216 media event

It was lightweight vs. heavyweight at a UFC 216 media event as Ferguson and Werdum had to be separated by staff.

Things got heated at this afternoon’s UFC 216 media luncheon, and it wasn’t between fighters you’d expect. Instead, it was lightweight Tony Ferguson and heavyweight Fabricio Werdum that nearly got into a scuffle and had to be separated by a nervous looking UFC staff member.

The drama kicked off when Tony Ferguson took exception to Fabricio Werdum talking while he was trying to answer a media member’s question. Werdum responded by angrily peppering Ferguson with a long string of Portuguese epitaphs that we can’t really repeat here for fear of getting blacklisted by Google and / or advertisers.

What we will say is that Fabricio once again busted out the gay slurs, the second time that we’ve heard of this month. Back in the middle of September, he threw similar remarks out at Daniel Cormier over Instagram.

As for Ferguson, he kept relatively cool and got the best (repeatable) snaps in, telling Werdum “Have fun fighting on my undercard,” and saying “Bye, Felicia” as the former heavyweight champ was led away.

Ferguson is set to face Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight belt at UFC 216, set to go down October 7th from Las Vegas, Nevada. Werdum is also featured on the card, and will be taking on hard hitting Derrick Lewis. The card also features Demetrious Johnson defending his flyweight title for the 11th time against Ray Borg. If he wins, Johnson will surpass Anderson Silva for most successful title defences in UFC history.
