The mixed martial arts (MMA) world received exciting news earlier today (Sat., Sept. 7, 2019) when it was announced that Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will headline UFC 244 on Nov. 2 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.
While there is no official title on the line, the two welterweight fan favorites will be competing for five hard rounds in order to determine the “Baddest Motherf—ker” in MMA right now. That bodes well for fight fans as they weigh their options of shelling out $60 for a PPV event not featuring an official UFC title fight.
As if we needed any sort of hype to get excited about a scintillating matchup between Diaz and Masvidal, UFC has already released the first official promo video for the UFC 244 headliner. Check it out in the above video player.
Diaz, who returned after a three year absence last month to take out Anthony “Showtime” Pettis at UFC 241, has risen to new heights since stepping foot back inside of the Octagon. With rival Conor McGregor still nursing a hand injury, Diaz is slowly taking over the show and is arguably the promotion’s biggest star heading into 2020.
As for Masvidal, this is his chance to further escalate his own UFC stock after taking out previously undefeated welterweight contender Ben Askren via five-second knockout back in July. Before that, “Gamebred” was seen taking out former title challenger Darren Till via first-round knockout back in March. Masvidal was hoping to parlay those back-to-back knockout wins into a UFC title shot, but a main event bid opposite Diaz may actually big a bigger opportunity in today’s sport.
