Chris Weidman believes he has a quick path to a title shot in the UFC light heavyweight division.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has decided that his big-time weight-cutting days are behind him. The veteran New York fighter is moving up to 205 pounds for his next fight, and he will meet Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC on ESPN 6 on October 18th.

In a recent interview on UFC Unfiltered, “The All-American” stated that he thinks he has a quick path a title shot at light heavyweight (transcribed by BJPenn.com):

“If it’s up to me, I dominate Dominick Reyes and I go against Jon Jones. That’s the goal. I want to beat the best, All the guys kind of ranked in the top five, I feel like Jon Jones has kind of beat most of them already. It does kind of give me the ability to kind of skip the rankings a little bit and jump up there.

“If the UFC and the fans and everyone thinks it makes sense. But first thing’s first, I gotta prove myself in the weight class. Otherwise none of this matters.”

Weidman will be looking to rebound from losing four out of his last five at 185 pounds, most recently getting stopped by Jacare Souza last November. UFC on ESPN 6 goes down in the TD Garden in Boston on October 18th. Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens will renew hostilities in the co-main event of the show.
