Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos

UFC president Dana White confirmed to the media late Saturday night, that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (10-1) would indeed get the next title shot against Junior dos Santos (15-1) with the two meeting on December 29, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This announcement comes after Dos Santos recent comments to White about wanting to face the “big mouth” Alistair Overeem instead of Velasquez.

Despite the Dutch fighters talk of getting his license early for “good behavior” he’ll won’t be eligible to reapply for his license with the Nevada State Athletic Commission until December 27, leaving him as an uncertain opponent for the champ on December 29.

Dos Santos took the title from Velasquez last November at UFC on FOX 1, earning a 64-second knockout victory at the Anaheim, California show.

Both fighters have fought once since then, with Dos Santos finishing Frank Mir this past May at UFC 146 via second round TKO. And Velasquez, stopping Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva at the same event by first round TKO.
