UFC president Dana White is willing to heed Daniel Cormier’s calls for a fight against Brock Lesnar.

UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been pushing hard for a fight against former titleholder Brock Lesnar since he won the belt from Stipe Miocic last July. Over the course of interviews, “DC” has repeatedly stated his case as to why he would want to fight someone who has not been in the Octagon for nearly three years and is coming off a USADA suspension for a PED violation.

But for UFC president Dana White, the reasons to make this fight happen are simple.

“First of all, Brock Lesnar wants to come back. I don’t know when and when we’ll get it done,” White said during the UFC 236 post-fight scrum (transcript by MMA Weekly). “Daniel Cormier has done everything we’ve ever asked him. He’s fought everybody we’ve ever wanted. He’s been a great champion. He’s an incredible ambassador to the sport.

“If he wants the Brock Lesnar fight, why shouldn’t he get the Brock Lesnar fight? He’s talking about retiring and he wants to fight Lesnar.”

Cormier was supposed to retire by his 40th birthday last March 20th, but a back injury forced these plans to be put on hold. He has two more fights left according to White which are potentially against former opponents Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, but is also willing to make room for the former WWE Universal champion.

“He’s still got two nasty fights before he retires,” White said of Cormier. “He’s got Jon Jones and he’s got Stipe Miocic. If the guy wants to fight Brock Lesnar, he’s going to fight Brock Lesnar if I can get it done and if I can make it happen.

“I don’t know when but like I said, Brock lets me know when he’s ready.”

Reports surfaced about a potential Cormier-Lesnar fight some time in August, which White already denied.
