During the post fight press conference for Saturday nights UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill event, promotion president Dana White expressed his displeasure with the performances of both co-main event fighters, Frank Mir and Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson.
Both heavyweights fought for three rounds with Mir controlling much of the fight after the first round. Each looked winded by the third round, Nelson more so, leaving White unhappy with that a former champ and a “TUF 10″ winner would put in such a poor performance.
White stated that he would be having a meeting this coming Friday with Nelson to talk about his future, and now it appears that he felt he was a bit too critical of Mir’s performance.
Speaking to MMAJunkie.com, White rescinded his earlier statement on the former champs performance and credited him with a good game plan for the fight.
“I think I was a little harsh on Mir. He came into that fight with the perfect gameplan, and he nailed Roy with some big shots. Mir dominated that fight from start to finish, and he deserves some credit for that…”
“Overall, I thought the card was great. Brian Stann-Jorge Santiago, Demetrious Johnson-Miguel Torres, Rick Story-Thiago Alves, those were all great fights. Travis Browne and Stefan Struve, those guys come out to finish fights, and that knockout was amazing.
“But the main event and co-main event just didn’t really wow that crowd, and you know how I get. I think I was just a little frustrated last night that we didn’t end on a high note, and I was probably too hard on Mir.”
