UFC Fight for the TroopsA late afternoon report has UFC welterweight David Mitchell (11-1) pulling out of his upcoming bout with Mike “Quick” Swick (14-4) at next months UFC Fight for the Troops 2 event.

MMAWeekly.com was the first to report the news, noting that Mitchell withdrew from the fight due to a shoulder injury. Swick has opted to withdraw from the event entirely instead of facing a new opponent.

Swick posted this message on his Facebook page earlier today.

“Not fighting on January 22nd. I got the call yesterday that David Mitchell backed out due to an injury and considering my current situation we opted to put off the fight all together. I have been dealing with with my esophageal condition this whole camp and its taken a toll on my body. I will need more time to seek bet…”

He also noted that he’d be keeping busy with “Seminars and Military tours” and would be “Back in Iraq in a few weeks.”

Mitchell made his UFC debut earlier this year, losing a unanimous decision to TJ Waldburger at the UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares event in September. It was the first loss of his professional career.

Swick needs a win badly as he’s lost his last two UFC appearances dropping fights to Paulo Thiago via technical submission at UFC 109, and a #1 contender loss to Dan hardy by unanimous decision at UFC 105. So far “Quick” sports a 9-3 record under the UFC banner.
