Boxing’s heavyweight division might be gearing up to welcome back another big name.
According to the Ukrainian website Sport Arena, former heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko will return to the ring next month. The 43-year-old reportedly reached a three-fight deal with the DAZN streaming service for a guaranteed $120 million.
The contest will reportedly take place from the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, where Klitschko’s brother – former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko – is the mayor. Kiev’s Olympic Stadium will reportedly play host to Klitschko’s return bout. An opponent has not been named as of this writing.
Sports Arena also notes that Klitschko’s deal includes a fight against a top fellow heavyweight such as Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, or Tyson Fury. Klitschko’s last fight took place against Anthony Joshua in April of 2017. The pair put on an absolute classic which ended with an 11th round TKO victory for the Englishman.
The fight was quite the spectacle, as the pair drew 90,000 fans from London’s Wembley Stadium. They also received “Fight Of The Year” honors. If Klitschko wants to rematch Joshua, he needs to hope Jarrell Miller doesn’t pull off a major upset during their title clash in June.
