Hosting it’s first event ever this past Saturday night (March 31, 2012), the Worldwide Mixed Martial Arts Sports Inc. (WMMA) promotion was in El Paso, Texas at the Don Haskins Center for their WMMA: McCorkle vs. Heden – Fighting For A Better World event.
WMMA partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project, and Fort Bliss, to put the event together in support of wounded veterans. During the event, WMMA presented the Wounded Warrior Project with a check for $25,000.
The main event saw former UFC vet Sean ‘Big Sexy’ McCorkle face Brian Heden in a super-heavyweight bout. McCorkle attempted to use his size to overwhelm his younger opponent, with McCorkle weighing in at 312-lbs and his opponent at 287-lbs. It would be Heden who would finish things in the second, with a split lip he’d manage to get ‘Big Sexy’ on the mat and finish up with some ground-and-pound for a come-from-behind victory.
