Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will be the betting underdog in his awaited return to the Octagon this coming March.
Woodley, who lost his UFC welterweight title to Kamaru Usman back at UFC 235 this past March, is scheduled to make his return walk to the cage at UFC Fight Night 171 on Mar. 21 from London, England, when he takes on surging contender Leon Edwards in the main event. It isn’t the easiest of fights for “Chosen One,” but one he could certainly win to regain momentum at 170 pounds.
Despite his long track record and championship pedigree, Woodley is currently a +115 underdog for his clash with “Rocky” at UFC Raleigh, meaning a $100 bet would net you $115 with a Woodley win. That’s according to Betting Insider Journal, who released the preliminary betting odds earlier this week.
On the flip side, Edwards is currently a -147 favorite to take out “Chosen One” and push his current win streak to nine. Those odds mean you would have to bet $147 on Edwards to win $100.
Not too shabby considering Edwards is one of the hottest fighters in the division, but are we really going to doubt the bounce back abilities of Woodley? After all, the former champion has lost once since 2014 and has never been finished inside of the Octagon. Even at the age of 37, Woodley remains one of the best fighters in the sport.
Needless to say, Edwards is going to have his work cut out for him if he wishes to prove the early oddsmakers right.
