WSOF 28 main event: Marlon Moraes defends bantamweight belt against Joseph Barajas

World Series of Fighting (WSOF) has announced another card for 2016 — WSOF 28: “Moraes vs. Barajas” — which will come to Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove, Calif., on Feb. 20, 2016, airing live on NBC Sports.

Bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes (15-4-1) will attempt to make his third 135-pound title defense against rising star Joseph Barajas (12-1), the newest challenger to attempt to knock Moraes off the throne. Moraes’ last successful defense was at WSOF 22 in Aug. 2015, when he finished Sheymon Moraes (no relation) in the third round with a rear-naked choke.

Barajas made his debut at WSOF 25 a few months later with a third round technical knockout.

WSOF President Ray Sefo offered the following comments on the match up:

“Beginning with Marlon Moraes, the top dog in the division, the 135-pound superstars are going to be out in full force with a lot at stake at WSOF 28.”

Indeed, the talented pair will as Dagestani prospect Timur Valiev (10-1) puts his 10-fight win streak on the line against the hard hitting Chris Gutierrez (8-1-1), who uses a ferocious flurries of strikes to collect a technical knockout in 62 percent of his wins.

More bouts will be added to WSOF 28’s fight card at a later date.
