Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, considers himself to be the best middleweight in the world after disposing of ex-champion Anderson Silva back in February.

Not everyone agrees.

As most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans would attest, it’s hard to claim total supremacy without first defeating the division champion. And even if Adesanya is able to overthrow Robert Whittaker in September, No. 1-ranked Yoel Romero remains in his rearview mirror.

Romero (13-3) was expected to make his Octagon return at the upcoming UFC event in Ft. Lauderdale; however, an untimely bout with pneumonia booted him from his Ronaldo Souza rematch and left him sidelined until further notice.

Adesanya (17-0), meanwhile, is going to fight “The Reaper” in a middleweight title unification bout later this year, thanks to a thrilling, five-round unanimous decision win over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 last weekend in Atlanta (watch it).

Maybe we can resurrect this bout while we wait?
