MMA: UFC 248-Adesanya vs Romero

An important middleweight contest is now scrapped from the UFC Vegas 7 lineup.

With less than two weeks to go before fight night, the UFC Vegas 7 co-main event has suffered a huge blow.

Former middleweight title challenger Yoel Romero suffered an undisclosed injury that has forced him to withdraw from his August 22nd matchup with Uriah Hall. BJPenn.com first reported the news before confirmation of his injury was revealed by MMAJunkie.

Romero (13-5) is on a three-fight losing streak, albeit all close decisions to Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa, and Israel Adesanya. While the Whittaker and Costa fights were thrilling, the Adesanya title bout was decidedly not. The 43-year-old Cuban powerhouse last won a bout in 2018, when he KO’d Luke Rockhold at UFC 221.

Hall (15-9) has won two straight since he was stopped by Paulo Costa at UFC 226. The Ultimate Fighter 17 runner-up scored a comeback KO against Bevon Lewis before taking a decision over Antonio Carlos Junior last September. Unfortunately for Hall, the bad luck continues for him in 2020, as a UFC 249 bout vs. Jacare Souza was called off last-minute after Jacare tested positive for COVID-19.

It remains to be seen whether Hall will still be on the card.

UFC Vegas 7 is headlined by a men’s bantamweight bout between former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and perennial contender Pedro Munhoz. The night’s main card is expected to air live on ESPN.
