Yushin Okami expected to headline WSOF event in Japan; Emi Fujino next for champ Jessica Aguilar

Top-ranked middleweight Yushin Okami is expected to headline World Series of Fighting’s inaugural trip to Japan, WSOF 11, promotion officials announced Saturday night.

The event is scheduled to take place August 2, 2014, although an venue has yet to be finalized.

Okami (30-8) will likely meet the winner of Jesse Taylor (27-9) vs. David Branch (13-3), an upcoming match-up which serves as the finals of WSOF’s four-man middleweight tournament.

Fighting for the first time since being cut from the UFC, Okami dominated Bulgarian newcomer Svetlozar Savov to score a second-round submission victory at WSOF 9, which took place March 29, 2014 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

In addition, WSOF officials announced the next opponent for women’s strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar (17-4).

Aguilar, considered by many to be the No. 1 women’s strawweight fighter in the world, will look to defend her title against veteran Japanese contender Emi Fujino (13-7) at an unspecified show this summer.

Aguilar rides an eight-fight win streak into the bout, including her most recent performance, a first-round submission of Alida Gray which captured her the inaugural WSOF 115-pound women’s title.

Fujino, nicknamed “The Kamikaze Angel,” has split her last four contests, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Mizuki Inoue.
