Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano will make her return to the Octagon against savvy veteran Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 133 on July 14 from inside CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho, per a promotional announcement earlier today via ESPNBoise.com.
Zingano, 35, is coming off a difficult split-decision loss to talented Brazilian contender Ketlen Vieira back at UFC 222 and has dropped her last three Octagon appearances, including a title loss to Ronda Rousey in 2015. Now healthy, “Alpha” looks to regain her footing at 135 pounds and make another run at the title in 2019.
Reneau, 40, just submitted former title challenger and Olympic medalist Sara McMann this past February and has recorded a 3-0-1 clip in her last four Octagon appearances. A victory over a proven contender like Zingano could push the “Belizean Bruiser” closer to her first ever world title shot.
According to UFC officials, UFC Fight Night 133 will also feature a women’s flyweight clash between former bantamweight standout Liz Carmouche and UFC newcomer Jennifer Maia, as well as a men’s flyweight tilt pitting skilled striker Justin Scoggins against Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin Said Nurmagomedov.
