Press Release – Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford is seen by many as the next great Canadian star to come out of the Great White North. This opinion was only further cemented by Ford’s vicious TKO victory over former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan May 19th in Ontario. Up next for “The Real Deal” will be a bout at his home promotion Aggression MMA’s next event, entitled “Confrontation,” where he will lock horns with Nick “The Juggernaut” Hinchliffe. While not the lightning rod of attention that “The Real Deal” is, Hinchliffe is a threat in the cage that needs to be taken seriously. And if “The Juggernaut” has anything to say about it, Ryan Ford is going to find that out on June 10th in at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta at “Confrontation.”
Recently, Ford was quoted as saying, “All I gotta say is that Nick better step his game up from his last few fights, cause I’m on a whole different level than any fighter he’s fought. Everything that I bring to the fight…he won’t be able to handle it. So, bottom line, he ain’t G’d up, so he’s gettin’ beat up.”
In response, Hinchliffe had this to say: “I think Ford is having a war of words with himself. I don’t talk trash or need to make up a grudge in order to fight someone. I don’t mind…it’s just Ford’s style. He’s a good fighter and quite a personality. His whole ‘G’d up, beat up’ line was classic. I’m as white as they come. I drive a family car because I have a kid. I don’t know about getting beat up, but don’t plan on that, bro. But you’re right…I’m not ‘G’d up’…ha.”
How do you prepare for a tough fighter like Ford? “I don’t game plan too much, but I definitely see some holes [in his game] that I think I can exploit during the fight, and I’m working them into my training,” explains “The Juggernaut.”
To the fans, Hinchliffe had this to say: “Expect a war. It’s a line used often, I know, but I promise it. If Ford thinks I’m an easy fight, then ain’t right, and I will make it a quick night. Ha! That’s about as ‘G’d up’ as I get. If he wants to come in aggressive like he does, then don’t expect me to back down. I’m gonna meet you head on. I’m looking forward to our fight, Ford.”
Aggression MMA’s “Confrontation,” which will feature a main event between nationally-ranked welterweight stars Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (14-3) and Nick “Juggernaut” Hinchliffe (18-7). This highly-anticipated event will take place Friday, June 10th, at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. “Confrontation” will also showcase two-time world Muay Thai champion Shane “Shaolin” Campbell (4-1), submission wizard Luke Harris (6-1), and the MMA debut of world Muay Thai champion Levi Krupe. More details will be announced shortly.

Due to a venue scheduling conflict, “Confrontation” will not be broadcasted on The Score Television Network as part of The Score Fighting Series, as was its previous event, “Punishment.” The Score is a national specialty television channel providing sports news, information, highlights and live event programming in more than 6.8 million homes across Canada.
Despite the scheduling situation, Aggression MMA decided to hold a show for the benefit of its loyal fighters. “We could have taken the low road and postponed our event until the fall, but we felt we had an obligation to our fans and loyal fighters to follow up our last event with an even more entertaining card,” explained Aggression co-owner Moin Mirza. “We are confident that ‘Confrontation’ is going to be an incredible event.”
A multi-time veteran of The Fight Club, a Canadian fight promotion recently acquired by Aggression, “The Real Deal” has defeated UFC veterans Pete Spratt (twice) and CJ Fernandes, and has faced current Strikeforce combatant Pat “Bam Bam” Healy. Many consider Ford to be the top contender for the spot of Canada’s next breakout welterweight, following in the footsteps of current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre. With thirteen finishes in his fourteen wins, he is on the cusp of true superstar status, and is hungry to prove that he belongs amongst the elite of the North American fight scene.
“All I gotta say is that Nick better step his game up from his last few fights, cause I’m on a whole different level than any fighter he’s fought,” stated “The Real Deal.” “Everything that I bring to the fight…he won’t be able to handle it. So, bottom line, he ain’t G’d up, so he’s gettin’ beat up.”
Standing in Ford’s way at “Confrontation” will be Nick Hinchliffe, an experienced 170-pounder who has won five of his last seven bouts. He has faced Canadian MMA stars such as current UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald, Kalib Starnes, Travis Galbraith, Victor Valimaki, and Ryan Machan. The Team Impact product was very active in 2010, competing six times. In his last appearance, he defeated Machan via majority decision. He’ll now face Ford with much at stake.
In addition to the aforementioned combatants, “Confrontation” will present regular highlight reel inhabitants Jason Gorny (4-4), UFC veteran Victor “The Matrix” Valamaki (16-8), Steve Beaumont (2-0) and ex-Canadian Football League star, Rio Wells (4-1). The full fight card will be announced shortly.

Kurt Southern vs. Brad Cardinal
Kicking off the events main card is the second bout of Aggression Mixed Martial Art’s Lightweight Tournament. Representing “Alliance Martial Arts” and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is Kurt Southern, looking very angry while quickly coming out at the bell he wastes no time connecting with a right. Using to the strike as a diversion, Kurt is quick to grab at Calgary Alberta’s Brad Cardinals leg looking for a take down but instead finds himself taking a knee before the two stand clinched. Kurt utilizes a sweeping trip maneuver to take down Brad, lands in half guard and slowly works his way towards the cage. Brad looks to measure distance to the cage then attempts to sweep Kurt but is unsuccessful in doing so and now must work while positioned on his back. After passing to side control, Kurt delivers shots and a set of elbows before opting for the arm triangle and positioning his hips to get it sunk in deep. After a what seemed an unlikely escape, Brad finds himself with half guard taking a big right from the top. Kurt looks to pass the guard but cannot so he digs at the kidneys with a few lefts then pauses to rethink his strategy at which point referee John Braak would tell the fighters to “Do Work!”. Kurt clearly adheres to the warning as he lands a big left blow before posturing, then standing up then out of guard and as Brad attempts a few up kicks Kurt would meet each with a kick of his own. One more up kick out of Brad and Kurt takes the opportunity to rush into side control, make a pass to land himself in half guard and deliver a few quick shots as he keeps the pressure on until the bell sounds, signaling the end of the first.
Choosing to remain standing in between rounds, a weirdly calm Kurt waits for his opponent to make the first move. In acceptance to the invite Brad jabs proving he’s measured a proper distance, then hits with an inside leg kick. Kurt swings but misses a hook and locks in a clinch before picking Brad up and slamming his back to the mat as he precedes to give out body shots. Brad lands right strikes from the bottom before closing his guard briefly in between each heel kick to the calf of Kurt. Not liking the calf strikes, Kurt plants both feet, stands looking to pass but is anable so he falls back into guard and keeps his weight on until being instructed by John Braak to stand up. Once reset, Kurt connects with a BIG right kick to the body, Brad as if to mimmic answers back also throwing a left to top his opponent. Kurt shoots and lands a single leg take down in half guard and quickly passes to side control. With a gameplan in mind, Kurt keeps both legs together and kicks them upward to land on the opposite side in control where he keeps a tight lock on the arm triangle while delivering knees to the kidneys. Brad lands a huge blow to Kurts mid-section prompting him to release the submission attempt and Kurt then takes a solid knee once Brad was able. Brad then tries pushing off the cage but his strategy is put to a halt as he takes elbows and right hands to the head. Kurt slowly moves them both to work away from the cage and during his efforts feels the knees delivered by Brad from on his back. The bell to end the second is then heard and the two go to their separate corners and Kurt again opts to stand while Brad pants as he sits on the stool.
Kurt demonstrating great physical conditioning when he comes in aggressively landing a right jab-left leg kick-right head kick combo before he shoots and secures a double leg take down that lands him in half guard. Brad closes guard and Kurt delivers a number of right blows then pauses to rest until the referee again warns to “Make Something Happen Southern!”. Kurt again following orders, lands a quick set of rights to Brads body then gets back on his feet and backs away. Brad once back on his feet, lands a pair of leg kicks followed by body kicks that are answered with one to the body and one to the head. Kurt closes the distance between the men and lands a right knee to the inside of Brads leg which came so close to the groin that Kurt would even stop, raise a hand and ask Brad if he is “okay?”. Once confirmed that a groin hit it was not, Kurt lands a take down and momentarily stays in side control, after a slight scramble he looks to stand. Brad lands a flailing up kick on Kurt and he falls right back down but is almost immediately swept winding up on his back to easily throw right punches that land on the kidneys still working to get the left under hook. Brad tries to wrap an arm around Kurt who sees that as his chance to do a sweep of his own before passing to side control and flattening Brad out. Kurt still the aggressor continues landing solid knees to Brads mid-section until he finds that hipping out and planting his feet on the hips to push off is an effective defense and the two are both on their feet. Kurt shoots in for a take down but is caught in a standing guillotine still executing knees and strikes to the body to defend the submission attempt. Once free Kurt again shoots in landing a trio of shots on Brad who returns just one, ties it up, delivers a knee and secures himself a guillotine. The men both fall to the mat landing with Kurt still locked in a guillotine and in Brads half guard but he is quick to spin out, giving up his back to take a few big strikes. Kurt rolls back into mount where he would have to defend more punches until the bell sounds ending the hard fought battle and leaving it to the judges. Kurt Southern defeated Brad Cardinal via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)
Will Romero vs. Adam Lorenz
First to enter the ring is Stoney Creek, Ontario’s Will Romero backed by Iron Tigers, Alin Halmagean and once in the cage he patiently awaits his opponent. The music changes to blast “Run Through the Jungle” and representing Alliance Martial Arts comes in the manic/eager looking Adam Lorenz who hops right in to be briefed by referee Vern Gorman. The very eager looking Adam immediately rushes in toward Will who appears to be egging him on as he rocks away in pendulum stance. After seeing Adam has taken the bait he connects with a straight and a slapping inside leg kick until Adam backs right off. Quick to attack, Adam again shoots for a take down but is caught in a guillotine when Will would sprawl forcing Adam to spin out to escape the submission. Will throws but misses a big right kick and is hit with a set of knees before managing to connect with his kick. Adam hits with both a right and left kick, lands a one-two punch, and another set of kicks before faking a kick and shooting in and landing himself a double leg take down which put him in half guard. Will connects with body shots and moves to full guard while defending a number of strikes and short elbows until the round bell rings putting a momentary end to the abuse.
To start the second, Will rushes in stopping as Adam throws a big right kick and misses. Will then misses with a flying knee but immediately lands a big right kick to the body. Adam shoots in landing a take down in full guard and moves two work the two of them against the cage. Will then hips out and passes to half guard while eating a few rights from the top. Will tries for a Kimura taking a flurry of big left punches and elbows accompanied by some rights before he is able to free all but his leg which Adam hangs onto and pushes with back to the cage and again earns himself a take down. Will on the way wraps up an Americanna and from his back works the submission attempt until the end of round two.
Adam starts the second by shooting in for a take down that is denied with a beautiful sprawl from Will and the men would exchange kicks twice. Adam would try throwing a third but he slips landing on his back. Appearing as though he would capitalize on the fall Will rushes in but instead opts to stand delivering kicks to Adams legs before he`s able to stand back up. Will throws, landing a right kick then Adam is quick to land a left, right before he`s hit hard in the legs by a right kick from Will and then the men hit legs as they simultaneously throw kicks. Adam swings hard missing in his striking attempt and as Will jabs to check the distance Adam fakes a kick and instinctively Will is ready for a push kick to the hips which isn`t required so he instead hits with a nice one-two. Adam swings missing a right kick and connects with his punch, Will is quick to answer back with a four strike combo of punches hitting Adam with them all. Adam wanting to show he isn`t phased hits with a weak right kick and has only shown he was hurt by the blows then the men exchange overhand rights before Will backs off. Once composure is regained, Will feels out the distance with a one two then seeing he would be able to connect he swings a left-right-hook which is met by Adams right kick. As Will tried the three strike combo again Adam shoots in for a takedown but is denied as Will connects with both a left and right punch. The men stand exchanging combos of punches with the odd leg kick thrown in until Will hits hard with a big hook topped with a beautiful knee. Adam backs off for just a second then connects with a right leg kick and overhand right before shooting in for a single. Will is able to stay standing and works to free his leg while Adam would back him into the cage working for the take down until the bell sounds ending the matchup as it goes to the judges. Adam Lorenz defeated Will Romero via Unanimous Decision (29-28 x3)
Dave Mazany vs. Shane Campbell
Also taking part in the Light weight Grand Prix and coming out first to Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train”, representing the “Wand Fight Team” of Las Vegas Nevada is Dave “Pain Train” Mazany accompanied by Edmonton fighter Mitch Clarke and oddly enough Dean Panas. Dave paces around the cage looking insane to put it lightly and a very calm looking Shane Campbell enters the ring backed by his Kru & Master, Alin Halmagean and Roman Kim. After the fighters touch up, Shane hits hard with a beautiful leg kick and Dave ties up giving Shane the chance to deliver a set of knees. They pommel for position until Shane is able to push off and step back towards the cage, Dave again shoots in and Shane in defense tries giving a knee only to have his leg scooped and he connects with a punch on his descent that lands him with half guard where he is forced to defend the punches and elbows. Shane is able to push the head of Dave and hit with a big elbow from the bottom escape back to his feet only to clinch up and be bullied back into the cage where there’s an exchange of knees. Dave grabs hold of Shane’s leg, dragging him down as Shane pulls guard and offers a set of big elbows then opts to work on the legs hammering the thighs with his heel six times. Dave stacks Shane and gives strikes from up high before gripping an leg in hopes of locking it but Shane is able to spin forcing Dave to release the limb and drop back into side control where he takes a duo of hammer fists from Shane before the Muay Thai Champion can escape and land a few more blows with his fist and elbows one of which cuts Dave deep causing him to gush blood. Once both are at a stand Dave shoots in looking for a single leg take down but he is unable to pull Shane down to the mat so he lets go and connects with knees before clinching up where the two would stay until the end of the round.
Shane starts the second landing a one-two punch followed by a leg kick and as Dave shoots in, Shane lands a four strike combo and a pair of knees before being tripped into side control. Shane from on his back pushes off the cage hoping for better positioning but Dave passes to half guard and rains down striking three times. Shane works for an under hook and with his free hand strikes and just to prove he can multi-task he simultaneously pushes off the hips of Dave to gain a little space. Dave trying to close the gap, takes heels to his thighs and strikes from below before hitting Shane with big right hammer fists down and a few to the kidneys. Shane scrambles to get back up on his feet and succeeds only to pick up Dave and slam him back to the ground where he would land more elbows before trying to stack but cannot due to connecting elbows from Dave below. Dave escapes and before he regains footing takes a massive slapping kick from Shane followed by three rights. Dave is quick to realize it’s not in his favor to stand toe to toe with the Muay Thai Champion so he shoots in landing in full guard. Shane once again on his back connects with a big right before being hit by a near dozen elbows from the top, immediately scrambles to escape, stands up and lands another huge right kick and a couple to Dave’s lower legs, sneaking in a few quick punches before the bell sound ending the second.
Shane again comes out the aggressor with a beautiful leg kick and a flying knee which is caught by Dave who uses that to take him down. Shane is sat up against the cage when he strike with his elbow downward and is warned to “watch the spine”. He hits with his fists three times to Dave’s kidneys and throws in a few more elbows at a legal angle. Dave connects a few short elbows then his attempt to pass is denied so he tries to stand to break Shanes closed guard and as he does he rains down three big rights. Shane again wants to create distance so he plants his feet on the hips of Dave but cannot keep him from attacking and is hit with another big right down. Not a fan if the blows Shane up kicks then has his legs tossed away just so he can be hit with more elbows. Shane still against the cage in side control tries to push off and scrambles for a better position. He gives Dave the upper hand and ends up taking a flurry of punches and backwards elbows before unleashing his own flurry of elbows to the head from on his back where he stay until the bell rings ending the action and blood packed match up. Dave Mazany defeated Shane Campbell via Unanimous Decision (29-28 x3)
Josh Hill vs. Diego Wilson
As the combatants for this title match up are set to enter, it is Journey that’s first heard throughout the Shaw Conference Center and as the crowd chants “HILL!-HILL!-HILL!” out comes the Stoney Creek Ontario native Josh Hill who proudly enters then awaits the entrance of his opponent Diego Wilson who represents ZUMA. The bell sounds and Diego takes his cue as he comes in fast and lands a right leg kick, right punch, left kick combo, then Josh fakes a jab before missing with the same combo. Josh then comes forward but is kept at a distance with push kicks, so he quickly lands a leg kick before shooting in for a double leg take down. It appeared as though he would land the attempt but Diego scrambled allowing Josh to only tie up. Josh would work with what he’s given so he remains clinched to bully Diego into the cage and deliver knees. Diego is able to hit with a few rights before his head is pulled downward to meet the knee of Josh and then take an uppercut. Diego lift his head and works for both over hooks while exchanging knees from the clinch for the remainder of the round
Josh starts the second with a right leg kick and a set of jabs which is quickly answered with a quick pair of jabs and a smooth four strike combo. Josh lands a big left and in hopes to counter, Diego throws but misses a right kick. As Diego tries shooting in for a single leg take down Josh lands a sweet overhand right then trips Diego who didn’t like going down by someone else’s force so he’s quick to get back on his feet. Diego succumbs to Josh’s constant pressure and takes a knee to the thigh and one to the face as he’s bullied into the cage. Josh doesn’t let off the pressure and knees the inside of Diego’s leg before picking him up by both legs to slam him to the mat. Diego throws with his right from below landing the strikes as well as a few short elbows. Josh hands out lefts to the kidneys and Diego closes guard still taking more rights from the top. Both pause and not allowing anymore hugging, the referee instructs them both to break and stand, Diego does just that then pushes the referee out of the way implying he’s not yet had enough. Josh moves to attack and is kept at a distance with push kicks until his timing allows him to connect with a punch before landing the take down which is where they remained until the sound of the bell.
Round three has Diego looking quite gassed as he jabs to measure distance. Josh connects with a big right hand, circles a few times then fakes a jab, hits hard with a right hook and looks for the take down only being able to tie up and push Diego’s back to the cage. Diego swings with his right until the two exchange knees from a clinch. Josh delivers quick elbow strikes then they pause in the clinch almost knowing they’d be separated. Once reset Josh feels out his distance as he dances around Diego, annoyed with the taunting, Diego throws a kick but his leg is caught and Josh uses the lack of balance to his advantage when shoving Diego down to land in half guard. Diego tries to buck Josh off but only leaves an opening for Josh to transition to full mount where again he would hang on through the buck attempt of Diego. Josh hammers down with four crushing left blows before moving to a higher mount where he offers three big right hands from the top followed by a pair of big elbows down and two more right strikes. Diego pushes off the cage and spins giving up his back and Josh looks for the rear naked choke. Diego spins out of the submission attempt back to mount for more shots. Josh again moves to a higher mount flattening out Diego to strike away cutting his mouth open forcing him to give up his back again and he would try for the rear naked until the bell signals the rounds end.
The fourth round has Diego Wilson keeled over looking gassed until the bell at which point he checks the distance between with a quick one-two. Josh sees Diego is not quite close enough to land punches but he himself is able land an inside leg kick, then move in to land double jabs. Diego swings and Josh ducks under it and lands a take down in side control then quickly moves to full mount delivering strikes. Diego gives Josh his back and is immediately flattened out taking two rights, two lefts, two more rights and once he’s able to get on his knees he takes two knees from Josh. Josh then flattens Diego out on his belly and continues with the hammer fists until Diego works to his knees and he sees an opening to sink in a rear naked and does just that. Once Josh has the choke sunk in he rolls to his back putting Diego Belly up trying to prevent Josh from obtaining the leg hooks. Diego pushes off his heels trying to peel out of the submission but Josh only lock it in tighter leaving him with only the option to strike backwards hoping to land a couple before the bell sounds to end the round.
The bell is heard signaling the start of the fifth and final round and after a quick touch up Diego turns to spit out the blood that is filled his mouth before coming in swinging four times. Josh swings twice himself and as he shoots he’s hit with a left from Diego. Josh again looks to get a single leg but is denied and the two tie up where Diego’s four strikes are met with only a left knee. Diego’s corner takes notice of the near dirty knee and yells “watch the nuts”. Diego has got his back to the cage and hits with a knee prompting Josh to pick him up with little effort and slam him landing in full guard where he postures up for more power in his big elbows down. Diego works elbows of his own from the bottom and Josh steals a combo from “The fighter” when he hits to the head-body-head-body with his left before posturing up to throw another big right hand. Diego closes guard and the men simultaneously exchange left and right punches before holding the other causing a reset of them both. When given the go ahead, Josh gives his all throwing a big right overhand but is unable to land it due to the text book push kick from Diego. Josh jabs and shoots in and in defense comes a sprawl from Diego as he’s backed into the cage to take a right hand from Josh. He isn’t a fan of the right strikes so he grabs hold to control the wrists but with both hands occupied he isn’t able to defend the knees but can surely answer back with knees of his own. The men exchange more knees until the match comes to an end. Josh Hill defeated Diego Wilson via Unanimous Decision (50-44, 50-44, 48-47)
Ryan Ford vs. Johnny Davis
With the nights Main Event about to start the entrance music begins to play and as what sounds of the instrumental to ’90’s boy band Hanson’s “Mmm Bop” plays on, out comes Johnny “JJ” Davis who enters the ring to dance around and sway in pendulum stance staring coldly at the curtains of which his competitor would enter from. As the crowds cheers grow piercingly loud, out comes the homegrown favorite Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford backed by his entourage that just to name a few consisted of his brother Brandon Ford and his newest coach, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Paulo Azambuja. As he entered the ring Ryan would pace and hop around looking both calm and eager as he guns off his opponent who is no longer giving a stare down but looking down to the mat and he’s introduced to the sounds of “Booooo”’s from the crowd.
After a quick touch up, Johnny throws a right leg kick that is answered with a jab then big right kick to the body from Ryan. Johnny shoots in looking for a double leg take down that is denied by Ryan who works for the over hooks as he’s pushed back into the cage. Johnny hits lightly with a knee and Ryan pushes him off to move away from the cage and hits Johnny with a massive left before Johnny would again shoot in. Looking for a single leg take down only to be denied Johnny hangs onto Ryans leg in hopes of pushing him down but Ryan is able to keep incredible balance pushing Johnny to his knees. A persistent Johnny still tries to get Ryan down and takes two big rights from above in his efforts forcing him to plant a foot and try pushing off towards the cage. Ryan uses Johnny’s own momentum against him and maneuvers to land his own double leg take down with guard. Johnny immediately gives up his back and Ryan seeks a submission as he sinks in a rear naked choke still managing to hit Johnny with a big right hand before he escapes and scrambles to his feet. Johnny again shoots for a single leg take down that Ryan defends with a sprawl until Johnny picks him up and dumps him to land in Ryan’s half guard. Ryan demonstrating his improved ground game puts in work from the bottom before sweeping Johnny landing first a pair of rights, then passing to side control and delivering four more from the position in which he stayed as the round came to an end.
Before the bell to start the second is heard Ryan remains calm as Johnny stands with his hands on his hips as if to be in deep though, possibly reconsidering his choice to be there. The main events second round starts off with Ryan landing a quick set of wickedly powerful left jabs one of which hits and splits Johnny above his left eye causing it to bleed rapidly. Ryan doesn’t pause at all instead gives a knee to Johnny when he as predicted shoots in for a take down that lands him with guard. Ryan effortlessly stands up breaking the guard and kicks at the legs of his downed opponent until Referee Vern Gorman steps in to assess the damage of the gushing wound. Ryan stands in a neutral corner rocking in pendulum to the rhythm of the crowd chanting his name. Johnny is given the okay to continue and to no surprise shoots in only to be denied a take down. Ryan lands three crushing rights while being pushed back into the cage by Johnny who is adamant on taking the hometown favorite down. A wicked low sprawl from Ryan lands them almost in a North/South position where Ryan continues to feed rights as Johnny does nothing but hang onto Ryan’s leg for dear life. Clearly annoyed Ryan lands a crushing left blow which produces a grueling sound that was surely heard throughout followed by a trio of elbows. Ryan keeps a constant pressure pressing his opponent into the cage before spinning up and out to free the leg that Johnny remained latched onto, then coming back down hard and fast to feed more thunderous strikes to his opponent until the referee would wisely step in to put an end to the “E-town Beat Down” that Johnny has signed up for. Ryan Ford defeated Johnny Davis via TKO (Unanswered Blows) at 2:06 in Round 2.

RYAN “THE REAL DEAL” FORD TO HEADLINE AGGRESSION MMA’S “PUNISHMENT”
“I want 2011 to be the real deal!”
Press Release – Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (13-3, five KO/TKO’s, seven submissions) was recently announced to be part of the main event for the March 11th Aggression MMA event, which is entitled, “Punishment.” Ford’s opponent at “Punishment” will be Johnny “JJ” Davis (15-3), a well-rounded fighter with a lot of experience behind him. Now a member of Edmonton’s top MMA promotion, Ford has carved out a reputation as one of Canada’s top young 170-pounders. A native of Edmonton, “The Real Deal” is set to make 2011 his year.
A multi-time veteran of The Fight Club and Maximum Fighting Championships, “The Real Deal” has defeated UFC veterans Pete Spratt (twice) and CJ Fernandes, and has faced current Strikeforce combatant Pat “Bam Bam” Healy. Many consider Ford to be the top contender for the spot of Canada’s next breakout welterweight, following in the footsteps of current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre. With twelve finishes in his thirteen wins, he is on the cusp of true superstar status, and is hungry to prove that he belongs amongst the elite of the North American fight scene.
Outside the cage, Ford launched his own clothing line, which he calls “G’d Up Clothing.” He is also a family man, having married his wife Nina in 2010, and has a young daughter named Bella. His motivation to be the best he can be is certainly in place.
“I want 2011 to be the real deal,” says Ford. “I want this to be the year that shows how my MMA game has evolved, and how I am one of the top guys at 170 lbs. in the world who is not signed by the UFC. And I want this year to begin and end undefeated, and with me as the Aggression MMA Welterweight Champion.
“And for my opponent at ‘Punishment,’ and my fans, be ready to see why they call me ‘The Real Deal.’”
In addition to the Ford-Davis main event, “Punishment” will feature its first ever eight-man lightweight tournament. The winner of the tourney will be crowned the Aggression Lightweight Champion. Fighters scheduled to participate include Shane “Shaolin” Campbell, Tim Jenson, Ryan Machan, Estavan Payan, Mitch Clarke, Trevor Wright, Brad Cardinal, and Kurt Southern. The four winners will square off at the next Aggression event, and the finals will be held at the following event.
