Dan Hooker Claims Al Iaquinta Turned Down Fight With Him

It sounded like Al Iaquinta was game to fight Dan Hooker. However, according to “Hangman,” that isn’t quite the case. It sounded like Al Iaquinta was game to fight Dan Hooker. However, according to “Hangman,” that isn’t quite the case.

Hooker took to Twitter and claimed that Iaquinta recently turned down a fight with the Australian:

“UFC told me you turned down the fight. Quit acting like you want to fight me, you don’t. #ragingbuildups

However, Iaquinta fired back, stating he never turned down the fight, calling such banter “lies”:

A bout between the two certainly makes sense. Hooker had a four-fight win streak snapped by Edson Barboza back in December. The Brazilian picked up a very nasty TKO victory in the third round of their meeting. Hooker was able to bounce back with a vicious knockout victory over James Vick at UFC San Antonio earlier this month.

As for Iaquinta, he has lost two of his last three via decision. Those defeats coming to now-lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The pair are at very similar positions in the lightweight division. Not to mention both men come to fight, and would likely put on an exciting contest. If Iaquinta can’t get his desired fight with Conor McGregor, perhaps he’ll settle for Hooker in Australia.

Do you think Hooker and Iaquinta is the fight to book next?

Al Iaquinta: ‘Sissy’ Conor McGregor Lacks Heart To Beat Khabib

If Conor McGregor wants a rematch against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, he has to go through Al Iaquinta.

Speaking to TMZ Sports recently, Iaquinta said McGregor doesn’t deserve an immediate rematch with the Russian because he tapped out. As opposed to Iaquinta, who took a fight with Khabib on hours notice and went the distance with Nurmagomedov, although he lost via lopsided unanimous decision (via Sports Joe):

“I’m the guy Conor has to get through if he wants a rematch. I’m the guy. No immediate rematch for him. He tapped out. I took it like a man on a weeks’ notice. He had all the time in the world to prepare and he wanted a way out. I’m the f***ing guy in this division.”

While fights against the likes of Dan Hooker are possible, a bout with McGregor is obviously intriguing. The pair are both in the hunt for a lightweight title opportunity, and the financial motivation for “Ragin” is certainly there.

But as far as McGregor’s aspirations for a rematch with Khabib, Iaquinta doesn’t see the point. In his opinion, the Irishman simply lacks the heart to get past “The Eagle”:

“His stock is not as high as he thinks it is. He got finished in his last fight and, as far as everyone is concerned, he’s dead. He looked like a sissy, tapping out like that.

“He’s got to come back and get a win… and if he does get a rematch [against Khabib], he’s going to get beaten again. That is a fight you need heart for, and he doesn’t have it.”

What do you think about Iaquinta saying McGregor lacks the heart to beat Khabib?

Chris Morgan went viral recently when he lost his mind at a Bagel Boss in New York before getting beaten up. He is now training with UFC stars Chris Weidman and Al Iaquinta to help him prepare for potential celebrity fights.

His target seems to be celebrity YouTuber Logan Paul, who took part in a blue-collar boxing match with fellow YouTuber KSI last year. While this might seem like a publicity stunt, Morgan has reportedly signed a deal with boxing promoter Damon Feldman. He is even expected to fight September 7 in Atlantic City against an opponent yet to be named.

Though it’s a boxing match, it wouldn’t hurt to get some experience from UFC stars, and that’s what Morgan did. He visted Law MMA in New York and got some pointers from Iaquinta, even sparring with him later on. Weidman was also present but seemed to be recording more than training with Morgan, at least from the footage available.

UFC lightweight Dan Hooker wants a higher-ranked opponent next and Al Iaquinta is the name that makes sense for him.

Hooker bounced back from his brutal knockout defeat to Edson Barboza last year with a knockout of his own over James Vick at UFC San Antonio last night. Fresh off what he called one of the “most satisfying wins” of his career, Hooker made plans for his next fight right away.

With teammate Israel Adesanya facing Robert Whittaker in a middleweight title unification clash at UFC 243, which is likely to take place in Australia, Hooker wants in on the card as well. And when given some names, one stood out for the New Zealander:

“I feel like (Al) Iaquinta’s the one that makes sense,” Hooker told reporters after the Vick win. “That name definitely stands out to me. Yeah, Iaquinta, October 5th, meet me in Australia. Get him on a plane!”

It’s certainly a fan-friendly fight and one that would significantly strengthen the undercard for UFC 243. And fortunately for all of us, Iaquinta seems to be up for it as well:

UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje still holds a grudge with Al Iaquinta — so much so that he promises to retire him one day.

Gaethje and Iaquinta were slated to clash in the UFC Lincoln headliner last year. However, the latter pulled out due to injury and ever since, the two have been embroiled in a war of words with each other. For his part, Gaethje has since won two in a row and could be in a position to challenge for the lightweight title next.

His plan is to only fight anyone ranked above him next:

“Just waiting. I gotta be patient,” Gaethje told theScore MMA (via MMA News). “ I don’t want to take people behind me. And I’ve earned a spot. I’ve earned my spot, and I want to fight someone ranked ahead of me. I’ve earned that.

The only exception would be if Iaquinta was offered to him, even though he lost his last fight to Donald Cerrone:

“I’ll never pass up an Al Iaquinta fight,” he added. “I’m gonna fuck him up one of these days. I told him that he will not get out of here…unless he just gets out now. But I’m gonna fight him.

“He signed to fight me, he backed out, sent me some personal messages saying, ‘Let’s work together.’ So I don’t play that game. I’m trying to fuckin’ kill that dude…figuratively, not literally, for court reasons. But, yeah, I don’t like him. I think he’s a douchebag. …I will retire that man. I promise you. I promise you I am going to retire that man.”
