Israel Adesanya

Set to headline the penultimate flagship event for the UFC this year, undisputed middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya initially opened as a quite wide betting favorite over incoming title challenger, Alex Pereira, however, approaching just over a month to fight night, the champion is drifting closer to his challenger as the odds close.

Adesanya, the current undisputed middleweight champion under the UFC banner, is slated to headline UFC 281 on November 12. at Madison Square Garden against Sao Paulo striker, Pereira, searching out his seventh successful title defense at 185lbs.

For Pereira, the recent promotional newcomer turned in a spectacular July knockout to earn a title offing against rival, Adesanya – cannoning home with a patented left hook to finish the streaking, Sean Strickland at UFC 276.

The victory came as the former two-weight GLORY Kickboxing champion’s third under the UFC banner, following a prior judging win over compatriot, Bruno Silva, and a shocking flying knee KO win over Andreas Michailidis at MSG eleven months ago.

Two distinct rivals, Israel Adesanya and his fellow striking phenom, Alex Pereira twice shared the squared circle in kickboxing competition – with the Brazilian twice defeating the current UFC middleweight titleholder.

Opening initially as a -200 favoirte over the +170 underdog, Pereira – Adesanya is currently sitting at -165 over the now-+145 Pereira, as the line closes and closes between the division outliers. Initially taking home a close, dubious decision win over Israel Adesanya in China back in 2016, a 2017 rematch in Pereira’s native Brazil, spelt a stunning knockout which has been replayed time and time again – and is sure to be on loop during the UFC’s promotion of this middleweight showdown.

Likely en route to a decision defeat on home soil, Pereira managed to clip Adesanya with a tight, check left hook in the pocket – sending the City Kickboxing staple to the canvas, requiring oxygen following a thunderous KO shot.

Given Pereira’s highly-publicized stoppage win over Israel Adesanya, it appears markets, bookies and bookmakers are receiving decent money on the Brazilian to conceivable upset the apple cart once more, and clinch the middleweight crown in New York City.

Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira both featured at UFC 276 in July

Sharing the aforenoted July card with Pereira at UFC 276, Adesanya landed a rather one-sided, yet forgettable unanimous decision win over challenger, Jared Cannonier in the night’s curtain closer.

Remembered more for his Undertaker-styled entrance with an urn branded with Cannonier’s name, Adesanya was criticized for his lacklustre performance against the challenger, having previously promised a standout performance as fans seek finishes from Nigerian-Kiwi.

In each of his 13 prior Octagon appearances, Israel Adesanya has opened and closed as a betting favorite against his competition, however, with his line against Pereira closing by the day, it appears punters expect the Eugene Bareman product to come under significant fire at Madison Square Garden – in what come conceivably come as his most dangerous title defense since his middleweight title reign began.

Henry Cejudo has backed Alex Pereira to beat Israel Adesanya in their upcoming match.

The reigning UFC middleweight champion is set to clash with Pereira in the headlining bout of UFC 281 on Nov. 12 in the promotion’s grand return to Madison Square Garden in New York. He’s coming off a lackluster yet dominant win over Jared Cannonier in his last outing in July at UFC 276, on the same card as Pereira’s latest contest against Sean Strickland.

Henry Cejudo backs Alex Pereira to defeat Israel Adesanya at UFC 281

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo shared his break down of the highly-anticipated fight between Adesanya and Pereira. Cejudo extended his support for ‘Poatan’ to replicate his previous performances against ‘Stylebender.’

“I think Alex is gonna get it,” Cejudo said on his YouTube channel (h/t Drake Riggs of MMA Fighting). “This is why it’s so important that as a mixed martial artist that you become well-rounded. That you’re not just a striker with good defense. Because what happens when you get that other good striker that has better striking than you then you can’t take him down? Cause that’s kinda where we’re at now with Pereira and Adesanya.

“As good as Israel is, Alexander just still has better striking. He knocked him out the last time they fought, he beat him the first time. If this fight goes on its feet, I just gotta go with Pereira.”

Cejudo likened the fight to Jose Aldo vs Max Holloway

“Triple C” referenced Max Holloway’s incredible win over legendary mixed martial artist Jose Aldo to make his case for Pereira.

Jose Aldo was the same thing,” he added. “Really good on his feet and great defense. But what happens when you get a better striker like Max Holloway? He put him out. He literally put Jose Aldo out. He put him out because there was nothing else that Jose Aldo had that was a trick in the bag for Max Holloway.

“That’s kind of how I see it in this position with Israel Adesanya and Pereira. I got Pereira by knockout. I think he’s got more diversity and things of that nature. Stop me when I lie.”

Luke Rockhold slams Khamzat Chimaev after UFC 279 shenanigans; ‘He kind of b*tched out’

Luke Rockhold

Former Strikeforce and UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold seemed to call it a career following his bizarrely entertaining bout with Paulo Costa and UFC 278 in August. However, there is a scenario where we could see Rockhold grace the Octagon once more according to the man himself.

While speaking with Kacper Rosolowski and Denis Shkuratov of Submission Radio, the one-time UFC world champion suggested that a big change in the middleweight division could inspire him to make another epic comeback.

“That Brazilian dude winning the title,” said Rockhold. “You’d have every wrestler in the f*cking game just chomping at the bit to get to that guy.”

That “Brazilian dude” Luke Rockhold is referring to is none other than Alex Pereira who will meet reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 281 this November. Of course, even if Pereira scores the upset, Rockhold still has some reservations about returning to competition.

“Only thing is you gotta fight Robert Whittaker or some sh*t in between and it’s like, that’ll f*ckin’ hurt. Win or lose to Robert Whittaker, that sh*t’s gonna hurt. It’s gonna hurt. We’re gonna fight.”

Luke Rockhold Was Not Impressed With Khamzat Chimaev

Shifting gears, Luke Rockhold was asked about his thoughts on Khamzat Chimaev and his heavily rumored move to the middleweight division after weighing in 7.5 pounds over the welterweight limit for his previously scheduled main event against Nate Diaz at UFC 279.

“I’m just not impressed with Khamzat, how he carried himself and missing weight by that much tells us so much about a person, you know? It’s like the pressure is getting to you and know you got a guy on the ground you can’t completely control like Nate Diaz, that’s gonna pose a little bit of a threat. You can wrestle him, but there’s worrisome. There’s a lot on the line. There’s a lot of pressure and he kind of b*tched out from what I saw, straight up. Now he wants to jump up to middleweight.”

As for how he feels about Paulo Costa, Luke Rockhold was less than complimentary, saying point blank that he didn’t feel Costa was “that good” when the two squared off in August but does believe the former UFC title challenger will have an advantage on the feet in a potential showdown with the undefeated Chechnyan.

“Paulo’s not that good. Paulo’s not that good at wrestling, I was just tired. He’s got a good initial burst, but there wasn’t much there with good energy. Chimaev seems like he’s a decent-level guy in the game of wrestling and grappling so, yeah. I don’t know. If he can get a takedown and rides that b*tch, I got Chimaev. On the feet, I think he might be in some trouble.

“It’s a good fight, but I’d favor Paulo on the feet and I’d favor Chimaev on the ground.”

Teixeira, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion under the UFC banner, headlined UFC 275 back in June against Czech Republic finisher, Jiri Prochazka, suffering a hail mary fifth round rear-naked choke loss in Singapore, dropping his undisputed belt.

Alex Pereira is set to compete for UFC gold in November at Madison Square Garden

As for Alex Pereira, the Sao Paulo striker is currently scheduled to headline UFC 281 in November at Madison Square Garden, clashing with past kickboxing rival and undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya in the duo’s third combat sports matchup.

Expected to share the Octagon with the aforenoted, Prochazka again in an immediate title rematch, Teixeira has yet to officially land a date for a title re-run, however, has been linked to both an end-of-year clash at UFC 282, or a Brazil homecoming next January at UFC 283.

Preparing for his premier title showdown under the UFC banner later this year, footage has emerged detailing a rather tense matchup between Pereira, and Teixeira in Connecticut – with the duo trading blow for blow in the pocket on the mats, even landing strikes after the buzzer as a teammate lept between the two

Featuring on the main card of UFC 276 back in July during International Fight Week, Alex Pereira, a former two-division GLORY Kickboxing champion, landed his third Octagon victory with a staggering first round, knockout win against Sean Strickland, snapping the latter’s seven-fight undefeated run – earning his fight with Adesanya.

The Brazilian holds other UFC wins over compatriot, Bruno Silva, as well as a stunning debut flying knee knockout win over Andreas Michailidis in November of last year, at the same venue of his upcoming title showdown.
