It looks like the UFC light heavyweight title picture just got even a little more complicated.
Top-ranked light heavyweight contender Alex Gustafsson’s recently had a significant shoulder surgery that was a success, to hear him tell it.
The Swedish UFC veteran took to Instagram to let his fans know that the surgery was complete and that he was feeling great:
Gustafsson appeared closer to a title shot than he thought after fellow light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir’s felony battery arrest following a bar fight in Florida.
”The Mauler” lost a close decision to champion Daniel Cormier, and with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson retired (and considering a move to heavyweight should he return), Oezdemir’s legal troubles and Jon Jones’ second failed drug test, Gustafsson is one of the only viable options.
However, with the surgery was just done it will likely take multiple months before he’s booked for another fight.
How do you feel about a Cormier vs Gustafsson rematch? Should “The Mauler” get the next crack at UFC gold, or should the division move on from “Bones” if Oezdemir can get cleared to fight Cormier?
