Alexander Volkanovski doesn’t see things going well for Sean Strickland in the outspoken standout’s first UFC title opportunity.

On September 9, ‘Tarzan’ will step into the main event spotlight inside Australia’s sold-out Qudos Bank Arena for a highly anticipated title tilt with reigning middleweight world champion Israel Adesanya. As we enter fight week, fans are eagerly anticipating the pre-fight media event where Sean Strickland is expected to deliver his special brand of trash-talk in front of members of the media and his opponent.

But no matter what creative quips Strickland comes to The Land Down Under armed with, Israel Adesanya’s friend and teammate, Alexander Volkanovski, believes it will ultimately cost ‘Tarzan’ once he steps inside the Octagon with ‘The Last Stylebender.’

“Obviously Sean is gonna talk, Sean is gonna try and get under his skin,” Volkanovski said in a video on his YouTube channel. “So that’s gonna make it fun. But I feel Izzy is going to really really put it on him. Especially with the talk that’s gonna happen. I think Sean Strickland is gonna definitely pay for some of the things he’s gonna say. Stylistically, I feel like he’s definitely gonna get hurt” (h/t BJPenn.com).

Israel Adesanya Ready to Show Off His Grappling Skills Against Sean Strickland

While Sean Strickland is mostly known for his crisp striking skills, many anticipate that ‘Tarzan’ will attempt to flex his solid grappling game in hopes of securing a massive upset against Israel Adesanya on Saturday night.

Speaking with Stake.com in a recent interview, the ‘Stylebender’ suggested that game plan may backfire on Strickland, referencing his own evolution on the mat in recent months.

“It’s coming. I promise you, it’s coming. I’m getting the neck from these motherf*ckers,” Adesanya said. “I’m taking their breath away, romantically. I can’t wait, it’s coming. You should see me in the gym, I’m nice with it, but I’m still learning. Under the lights, there is going to be a moment that I take a neck. I’m a purple belt by color but I still feel like a white belt.”

In 24 career wins, Israel Adesanya has never once submitted an opponent. Will that change at UFC 293, or will ‘Stylebender’ get the job done with his fists as he has done 16 times before?

Despite suffering three decision losses to current featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski over the course of their three-fight series, former division titleholder, Max Holloway insists he will clamour for a fourth title outing off the back of his stunning victory at UFC Fight Night Singapore yesterday.

Holloway, who retained his status as the number one ranked featherweight contender in Kallang, managed to hand former title challenger and common-foe, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung a brutal one-punch KO loss in the third round of their main event slot.

The victory came as Holloway’s second consecutively since his own shutout decision loss to Volkanovski in the pair’s trilogy bout in the summer of last year, having outworked Arnold Allen in a UFC Fight Night Kansas City headliner back in April.

And hoping to crown himself as the featherweight champion for the second time in his storied Octagon tenure, Holloway, who continues to separate himself as the best of the rest apart from Volkanovski, laid out intentions to face the Australian in the future again.

“Undeniable man,” Max Holloway told assembled media of a fourth fight with Alexander Volkanovski after his UFC Singapore win. “All week, I’ve been saying undeniable. I’m not here to call nobody out. That’s you guys’ job to figure that out, it’s the fan’s job to do for me. I’m just here to be undeniable, keep being undeniable.”

“I’ll keep crawling, scratching my way to the top of the mountain,” Max Holloway explained. “No one is going to stop me getting there.”

For Volkanovski the Joe Lopez trainee headlined UFC 280 during International Fight Week back in July, unifying the featherweight titles in a TKO win over then-interim champion and common-foe, Yair Rodríguez.

Volkanovski has yet to book his next outing, however, has been linked with a title defense against surging Georgian force, Ilia Topuria once he recovers from a recent surgical procedure to address a hand injury.

As part of the Gamescon 2023 convention, games publisher EA released a short teaser for the upcoming UFC 5 game. The full reveal is to come at some point next month, but the short clip did give clues at who the new front cover athlete will be.

Even though the figure only appeared for a matter of seconds, astute fans quickly worked to figure out who it was. Comparing the tattoos, most concluded it closely matched those of reigning featherweight champion, Volkanovski. If it is, the Australian will join the likes of Jon Jones, Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey, who have all graced the front cover.

The game is set to be released at some point later this year, late October or early November.

Alexander Volkanovski as the next cover athlete?

The choice would make sense, Volkansokvki has proven himself as arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. The 34-year-old is also well liked by the majority of MMA fans, especially after his performance as a big underdog against Islam Makhachev.

While nothing has been made official, the front-runner for Alexander Volkanovski’s next opponent appears to be Ilia Tupuria. The 26-year-old dominated Josh Emmet last time out, shutting down the American’s game while working his fantastic boxing over the scheduled five rounds.

A rematch with Makhachev is also something that makes sense, the pair battled hard over 25 minutes in an incredible display of MMA. Makhachev was tipped to dominate the contest by many, but in fact was pushed to the very limit by the much smaller Volkanvski

He’s definitely going to want that rematch [with Sean O’Malley]. That’s a big, big fight. [Him vs. me] that’s not happening. Ex-UFC middleweight world champion Alex Pereira ran into Alexander Volkanovski’s doppelganger while strolling through Europa Park in Germany.

Pereira is fresh off his first career win in the light heavyweight division, dispatching former 205-pound titleholder Jan Blachowicz via a split decision at UFC 291. Now sitting in the No. 3 spot in the division, ‘Poatan’ expects to compete for the light heavyweight title the next time he steps inside the Octagon.

To celebrate his big win and impending title opportunity, Alex Pereira took some time off and visited Europa Park, a popular tourist spot in Rust, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. While there, ‘Poatan’ ran into none other than reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski… Sort of.

“Alright, guys. I’m here at Europa Park. Look who I found here,” Pereira says before the big reveal. “Volkanovski. Look at this! I met him here in Germany at the park.”

Though the individual does bare a striking resemblance to the top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world, it’s safe to say that man is not the true Alexander Volkanovski that MMA fans have come to know and love. This is more like the Wish.com version.
