Hasbulla and the featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski have run into each other once again in Abu Dhabi. The two people had met previously, on Cooking with Volk, with the Russian-born character smearing the Australian fighter’s face with a hamburger.

Backstage at UFC 280, ‘The Great’ explained that if he ever saw Hasbulla again, he would take care of him. He said:

“You’s all seen that, right? Burger in the face. Chilli in the eye. That literally was burning me. Next time I see him, I’m going to fix him up. I’m tellin’ you, I’m going to fix him up.”

Russia’s Hasbulla then entered the room, Volkanovski exclaimed:

“Oh sh*t, he’s actually here!”

Hasbulla then proceeds to attack Volkanovski and take the featherweight title belt. This moment was shared on the UFC’s official Twitter.

The Russian Hasbulla has a five-year contract with the UFC. According to MMA reporter Igor Lazorin, the agreement entails: “Hasbulla signed a five year contract with UFC! So far in the plan – attending tournaments, media activity.

Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 280

Australia’s Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanosvki was in Abu Dhabi as the backup fighter for the UFC 280 main event. Charles Oliveira will be taking on Islam Makhachev for the vacant lightweight throne. If either of these fighters struggled to make weight or were unable to make it to the octagon, the featherweight champion Volkanosvki would step in.

Both ‘Do Bronx’ and Makhachev made weight so Volkanovski has some time off. However, whoever wins the lightweight title at UFC 280 will be next facing ‘The Great’ as their next defense. Both Oliveira and Dagestan’s Makhachev have agreed verbally to give Volkanovski a chance to make history as he tries to collect a second world title in the UFC. This champion vs champion matchup would likely be in early 2023.

Brazil’s Oliveira said he wants to fight Alexander Volkanovski twice. Once for the lightweight crown, and a second for the featherweight title. Additionally, he wants one fight in Brazil and one in Australia. During the UFC 280 press conference, Charles Oliveira explained:

Charles against Alexander Volkanovski, we’re gonna have it two ways: we’re gonna fight at 155 pounds [lightweight] and then we’re gonna fight 145 pounds [featherweight]. So we’re going to fight in two weight divisions.

‘The Great’ heard this offer and responded:

Let’s do it!

The featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski is enjoying some beachside time in the sun, joined by The Mac Life. Alexander ‘The Great is in Abu Dhabi as the official backup for the UFC 280 main event. Should Charles Oliveira or Islam Makhachev have issues with weight or an injury, Volkanovski will be ready.

All three fighters Volkanovski, Oliveira, and Makhachev have weighed in with no issues, all made the championship limit coming in at 155 lbs or lower.

It sounds as though Volkanovski is a bit relieved that he does not need to step in on Saturday night, as he wants a full training camp against either of these men. It is already agreed that the featherweight champion will be fighting the winner of the UFC lightweight title fight headlining UFC 280. Both Oliveira and Makhachev have verbally agreed to this.

UFC 280 press conference, Charles Oliveira explained:

Charles against Alexander Volkanovski, we’re gonna have it two ways: we’re gonna fight at 155 pounds [lightweight] and then we’re gonna fight 145 pounds [featherweight].

Australia’s Volkanovski said, speaking to The Mac Life:

“I’d rather promote my own title fight with one of these guys. The whole fight week business, Build the whole card around me and someone else, whoever it is … I was prepared to do it either way.”

Alexander Volkanovski surprised by the champion weight

Both Brazil’s ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira and Dagestan’s Makhachev weighed in under the 155 lb limit for this title bout. Volkanovski explained that he was a bit surprised by this.

“I was surprised because I’m pretty sure one of them … might have been struggling. Looked like it, anyway. We were checked up on to make sure everything was good on our end. I’m sure they did that because someone was struggling. They wouldn’t check up on us for nothing. So someone was struggling.”

However, both championship fighters came in underweight so Saturday’s night main event got the green light.

The Australian-born champion also added that his next fight will definitely be in Perth, Australia. ‘The Great’ Alexander Volkanovski added that he does not care who his next opponent will be.

“Who cares who wins? For me, who’s the bigger fight? … I’m game to fight either.”

UFC 280 takes the main stage this Saturday in Abu Dhabi as Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira battle it out for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship. Alexander Volkanovski reveals his thoughts.

Alexander Volkanovski serves as the main event’s backup fighter and will take to the scales on Friday with the rest of the card. If not needed, the featherweight fighter leaves fans with his prediction of how he sees Makhachev vs. Oliveira unfolding.

Oliveira is currently riding the hottest streak of his UFC career, dating back to his debut in 2010. As of late, the Brazilian has put together a staggering 11-fight win streak finishing highly prolific names such as Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

Despite earning a title shot and headlining the biggest pay-per-view event of the year, Makhachev hasn’t quite got the name value in his win column like Oliveira possesses.

That being said, the Dagestan fighter holds notable and dominant wins over Drew Dober, Thiago Moises, Dan Hooker, and recent Bobby Green, which has granted him the opportunity to attain UFC lightweight gold.

The headliner between Makhachev and Oliviera seems like a coin flip on paper, but Alexander Volkanvoski weighs in on how he envisions the fight playing out.

Alexander Volkanovski gives Mackhavchev vs. Oliviera prediction

“Obviously, I’ve been studying these guys so I sort of know how this will go and how I’ll approach it, but how is Charles gonna approach it? How is Islam gonna approach Charles?” he told via his YouTube channel per MMA Fighting. “We don’t know, but I think if I had to lean towards someone it would have to be Islam.

“No disrespect to Charles because Charles has proved himself, but I just think stylistically that’s maybe how I see it going.

“Either late finish, whether it’s kimura, armbar, arm triangle, that type of stuff, or decision.

“And obviously, if I need to step in, you never know. As I always say, you know I’m a safe bet.”

Alexander Volkanovski believes Makhachev’s suffocating sambo wrestling approach will be too much for Oliveira, who does have the most submissions in UFC history to his name.

“Charles is the underdog as the champion,” he added. “He’s proven himself, obviously, but I can still see why he’s maybe the underdog.

“A lot of people think that’s disrespectful, I don’t think it is. I think maybe they’re just looking at Islam being able to control him, right?

“To be honest, I think Islam’s control, the way he approaches grappling is all about control. Controlling the legs, controlling the hips, climbing, staying heavy, sticking him in certain positions, and then slowly going into better positions and grinding him out that way. [He] doesn’t make too many mistakes.”
