Heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have agreed terms ahead of an all-British undisputed fight in 2021.

Fury currently holds the WBC title after dethroning long-time champion Deontay Wilder earlier this year. ‘The Gypsy King’ must beat the American in a trilogy fight before the Joshua bout can be made official. Joshua holds three heavyweight belts after beating Andy Ruiz last time out. The Mexican originally upset ‘AJ’ to win the belts but lost in a rematch against the Olympic gold medallist. Joshua is expected to face his mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev later this year.

In an interview with Sky Sports Eddie Hearn revealed financial terms have been agreed for the two Englishmen to fight in 2021, he said.

“The main positive news is that Joshua and Fury have agreed to a two-fight deal, in essence. The most difficult part of any deal is the financial element. I believe we’re in a great place where both guys have agreed to what that should be.

“We have not signed contracts because there are still things to be worked out. We’re pushing towards a place where they can be drafted, for 2021.

“Both guys are in agreement. The structure of the deal has been put forward, and agreed to by both parties. There is a model in place that both parties are happy with.

“It’s the biggest fight ever in British boxing. It doesn’t get bigger, and there will never be a bigger fight in our generation. Two guys, very different, who fight differently, have experienced different things and have come back from adversity.”

Fury has since took to social media to react to the news and speak about dealing with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ before taking part in the biggest fight in boxing history – check it out below.

While the boxing world remains highly anticipated for an Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury showdown, it turns out the pair have locked horns already.

That’s according to unified heavyweight champion Joshua who revealed that he had sparred with the WBC king in 2010 back when he was an amateur.

“This was early on when I was an amateur and I didn’t know who Tyson was,” Joshua told Sky Sports (via The Sun). “I was reading in Boxing News he was going around London gyms asking if anyone knocks him out they get to keep his Rolex.

“Me and him had a straight war. We both have heart. I didn’t get to knock him out. He said afterwards ‘Watch out for this kid, he will be champion of the world one day’. And he got his prediction right.”

10 years on and the duo could compete in what would undoubtedly be the biggest heavyweight fight, at least in recent years.

Joshua won back his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles following his unanimous decision win over Andy Ruiz Jr. in December. Fury, meanwhile, became the WBC champion after handing Deontay Wilder his first-ever defeat when he TKO’d him back in February.

A title unification fight was what everyone wanted soon after; however, Wilder invoked his rematch clause with the trilogy now set for October. Joshua, meanwhile, was set to face Kubrat Pulev in June.

However, if the coronavirus pandemic continues throughout the summer, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants to explore the option of making Wilder wait and just go ahead with the title unification fight:

“I think when you look at AJ, I think very much it’s a thought that’s crossed my mind. We’ve got June 20 as a pencilled date for Anthony Joshua,” Hearn said. “We will make a statement potentially this week, or maybe early next week, that’s likely to be delayed. I think that’s pretty straightforward and obvious. Hopefully until the end of July.

“But if it starts kicking on beyond that, then you get to a situation where if Joshua is only going to box once this year, he would very much like that to be against Tyson Fury. The situation is a little bit out of our hands in that, if Bob Arum and Al Haymon can talk and make Deontay Wilder wait a little bit, we would absolutely love to go into that fight next.”

Anthony Joshua, Kubrat Pulev

Heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has had his mandatory title defence against Kubrat Pulev postponed.

The British knockout artist was supposed to face the Bulgarian on June 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the fight has now been pushed back with no future date yet set. The event’s promoters Matchroom Boxing announced the news in a statement on social media, it read.

“Confirmed: #JoshuaPulev has been postponed. A new date for the event is currently being worked on. We will announce any updates in due course and continue to explore the possibility of hosting this fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”

Eddie Hearn, the head of the promotional outfit later spoke with broadcast partner Sky Sports to discuss the decision to delay Joshua/Pulev and give fans an idea of when it will be rescheduled for, he said.

“We’re speaking to Tottenham, we’ve postponed the 20th date. We are working with them for dates in July and early August as well when we hope we’ll be back. Hopefully, we see that fight take place at the end of the summer.”

The news of this postponement follows on from Hearn’s decision to postpone all of his events in May which included two pay-per-view shows featuring Dillian Whyte vs. Alexander Povetkin and Oleksandr Usyk vs. Dereck Chisora.

Boxing, like most other sports, has already been profoundly affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus. Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc around the world, and boxing has already seen multiple events cancelled due to the pandemic. Matchroom Boxing, the world’s leading promotional company, have seen their schedule affected, and the upcoming bout between Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev could be under threat.

Anthony Joshua, 30, suffered his first professional career loss in a shock defeat against Andy Ruiz Jr in June of last year. However, following the reverse at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the Watford born heavyweight bounced back to reclaim his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles by winning the rematch against Ruiz in Saudi Arabia.

Following his return to the summit of the heavyweight division in December last year, AJ and Matchroom immediately had to begin dealing with the proposition of mandatory fights being taken by those in a position to do so. Kubrat Pulev and Oleksandr Usyk both took up their options, and a deal is in place with the former, with the fight announced to take place on June 20th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, due to the current ongoing situation with the coronavirus, the bout could now be in doubt, according to promoter Eddie Hearn. This opinion has been reinforced with many betting sites including BettingOnline seeing substantial postponements and cancelations of sporting events. While he suggests they remain hopeful of the event taking place, which would be AJ’s first fight on home soil since the Alexander Povetkin bought in September of 2018, there is a chance it could switch to July 25th. As the plan is for AJ and Pulev to face off at the home of Tottenham Hotspur, the status of the Premier League season will be a crucial factor.

AJ’s mandatory title defence against Pulev is over two months away, so, it has a slight chance of taking place on its original date. However, it’s likely Dillian Whyte vs Povetkin on May 2nd, and the fight between Dereck Chisora and Usyk on May 23rd will not happen as planned. Hearn suggested he is preparing to make the decision imminently and said things “ain’t looking good.”

With the United Kingdom now in a state of lockdown, it’s difficult to see any boxing events taking place in the near to short term future, even behind closed doors. Even without fans present, there would still be a requirement for many people to be in place to allow such an event to take place. Medical staff such as ambulance crews and doctors must be on-site, for example, which is not viable as things stand.

The British Boxing Board of Control announced earlier that all UK boxing events would remain suspended until the end of April at least when they will go back and review the situation. So, more fights could come under threat if things don’t improve soon, which would be a hammer blow to the sport and those connected.

Oleksandr Usyk Vows To Dethrone Anthony Joshua & Tyson Fury

Oleksandr UsykFormer undisputed champion at cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk is planning to repeat his achievements at heavyweight.  The 33-year-old Ukrainian has told Sky Sports he plans to beat British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to capture all the belts. “I work hard on it,” said Usyk, when asked about becoming undisputed at heavyweight. Oleksandr Usyk

Former undisputed champion at cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk is planning to repeat his achievements at heavyweight.

The 33-year-old Ukrainian has told Sky Sports he plans to beat British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to capture all the belts.

“I work hard on it,” said Usyk, when asked about becoming undisputed at heavyweight. However, when asked who he would prefer to fight, the talented southpaw was unsurprisingly nonchalant. “I want to fight both.”, he said.

Both Joshua and Fury have fights booked in against Kubrat Pulev and Deontay Wilder, respectively. Usyk isn’t really interested in those, though. He just wants the belts. “The last thing I think about is who will fight who. No predictions,”

Injury has hampered Usyk’s time at heavyweight. So far, he has fought just once, beating Chazz Witherspoon in October 2019.

“I need to stay active. I need to box,” he said. “If your vocation is passive, it’s not good. If you stay active, it’s very good. This is my active vocation.”

Next, he’ll face Dereck Chisora on May 23 – Coronavirus permitting. It’s a sizeable step up against a real dangerous heavyweight. However, his manager Egis Klimas is confident of handling ‘Del Boy’ before moving on to bigger things, he said.

“Right now, we have to win [against Chisora], then after the mandatory fight for the WBO has to happen.

“I believe Anthony also wants this fight. Good fighters want to fight good fighters. Anthony sees a good challenge in Oleksandr and wants to go there. Everybody says Oleksandr will give Anthony problems, but Anthony believes the opposite, so he wants to show that he is stronger.

“In the UK would make sense – it wouldn’t make sense to go to the States with one boxer from the UK and one from Ukraine. The UK fans know Usyk.”

Tyson Fury says Anthony Joshua isnt real champion

Tyson Fury has claimed compatriot and unified
heavyweight title holder Anthony Joshua only has his leftovers and can’t be
considered a true champion.

‘The Gypsy King’ dethroned Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf five years ago and won he WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world belts but was quickly stripped as he suffered mental health issues. All of those titles Fury once held are now in the possession of Olympic champion Joshua.

Speculation about a fight between the two Englishman has been rife since Fury beat American Deontay Wilder to claim the WBC and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles in February. Speaking about the potential all-British showdown on Good Morning Britain Fury revealed he believes there would be only one legitimate champion heading into the fight, he said.

“I’ve already been the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world when I beat Klitschko, I had all of the belts. So as far as I’m concerned, Anthony Joshua has only got my leftovers because I never lost those belts. I had to vacate them for mental health problems. They’re my belts. How can you claim to be the champion when you haven’t beaten the champion?”

The 6’9ft heavyweight revealed he is approaching the end of his career and once he has beaten Wilder again and faced Joshua his legacy and career will be compete, he said.

“I’ve got two
more fights left and then we’ll really think about what we’re doing and go from
there,’ he said.  I’m undefeated in 31
professional fights and this is my 12th year as a professional.”

‘The Gypsy King’ also commented on his upcoming trilogy fight with Wilder who triggered his rematch clause despite being brutally stopped just two weeks ago. Despite having got the best of his future opponent twice previously Fury insists he’ll still be taking a third fight very seriously.

“I beat him the first time and I beat him the second time and I will surely beat him the third time. He’s a very worthy opponent. He’s a very dangerous opponent and he has the eraser knockout. You’re only one mistake away from disaster, you have to be switched on for all 12 rounds.”
