UFC stars Curtis Blaydes and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson decided to take part in a “Celebrity Sumo Round Robin” this week.

The action went down at a SubStars grappling event yesterday (Fri. February 21, 2020) in Miami, Florida. Blaydes and Johnson took on sumo stars Ryuichi Yamamoto and Takeshi Amitani, respectively. Then, the pair squared off against each other. Blaydes first took on 210-pound sumo champion Amitani. Despite Blaydes having the size advantage, Amitani quickly dragged the UFC heavyweight to the ground, finishing the match with a hip toss.

Then, Johnson faced who many believe is the largest Japanese-born sumo wrestler in the world in Yamamoto, who weighs 600 pounds. Yamamoto lifted up Johnson with ease and eventually threw him out of the circle.

Lastly, Johnson and Blaydes squared off against each other. In the first round, Johnson quickly dragged Blaydes down, but then “Razor” was able to stay on his feet by using his hand on the mat.

The second round saw Blaydes use Johnson’s forward momentum against him to drag him out of the ring and tie up the score at one to one. In the third and final round, Blaydes used an inside trip to get “Rumble” down and win the match.

In regards to mixed martial arts (MMA), Blaydes is on a three-fight win streak inside the Octagon and is making a case for a shot at the heavyweight title. Johnson, on the other hand, who has been retired since 2017, is anticipating a return later this year. However, this time, the former light heavyweight title challenger will be doing his work at heavyweight.

What do you think about Blaydes topping Johnson in sumo wrestling competition?

Everyone is waiting on the potential return of former UFC light heavyweight title challenger and knockout artist Anthony Johnson.

“Rumble” has been teasing a return to the Octagon for quite some time now. Many believe, especially because of the ridiculous size he has put on since his initial retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA), that Johnson will return to compete in the heavyweight division. While that all still remains up in the air, Johnson continues to tease his return to the Octagon. “Rumble” took to Twitter and simply posted details about the upcoming UFC 248 pay-per-view (PPV).

“UFC 248 at T-Mobile Arena”

UFC 248 goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 7. It already features two title fights, as middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will put his title up for grabs against Yoel Romero, while women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang defends her title for the first time against Joanna J?drzejczyk.

The addition of a Johnson return to the card would make it even more massive of a show than it already is. Johnson hasn’t competed since April of 2017 when he failed to capture the 205-pound championship from Daniel Cormier, as he was submitted in the second round via rear-naked choke. This was the second time Johnson failed to win the light heavyweight title, as he was also submitted by Cormier in a previous title fight back in May of 2015.

Despite this, Johnson established himself as one of the most feared knockout artists the UFC has ever seen. Coming back to the Octagon well-rested, with even more size on him, at heavyweight, is a recipe for destruction. It will be interesting to see if his knockout power propels him to the title picture as fast in the heavyweight division as it once did at 205 pounds.

What do you think about Johnson’s Tweet? Do you think he’ll be returning at UFC 248?

Anthony Johnson is preparing for his return to the UFC, but this time, in the heavyweight division.

“Rumble” spoke to TheMacLife recently to discuss his return, and discussed where he stands physically at the moment. Johnson noted he’s walking around at 240 pounds right now. If he were to step into the Octagon at his current weight right now, he’d be just fine. (H/T MMA Fighting)

“Right now I feel good being at 240,” Johnson said. “If I were to fight right now at heavyweight for 240, I’d feel just fine. I feel like I still have my strength. I’m definitely not going to be one of the bigger heavyweight guys, there’s some monsters at heavyweight, but my advantage would probably be speed over a majority of those guys.

“Everybody at heavyweight for the most part has power but I think I’m much faster than those guys and I’ll probably have a little bit more knockout power. Don’t take that from me, I’m just saying. Those guys at heavyweight are amazing. I look forward to fighting all of them.”

Although Johnson is set on returning to mixed martial arts (MMA) competition, the wheels are still very much just beginning to roll on the process. Johnson has not yet reentered the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) drug testing pool. He will need to be tested for at least six months before being eligible to compete again. But don’t worry, because according to Johnson, he’s going to make sure the wait is worth it.

“We have to meet with the UFC some more,” Johnson said. “We have to go over things and just figure some stuff out but it’s all looking good so far. Nothing bad. I don’t want to put my foot in my mouth and say too much but everything’s looking good right now. I’m not worried.

“I was trying to shoot for April/May but maybe June/July. We’ll see. But whenever I come back I’m going to make sure it’s known. I want to come back and showcase everything and fight and just hurt people.”

What do you think about Johnson’s return to the UFC at heavyweight? Who would you like to see him fight first?

Recently, reports surfaced that former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson had a warrant issued out for him following a missed court date.

Johnson had agreed to a plea deal following an arrest for domestic battery after picking up his girlfriend in a “football hold” against her will. After missing his court date, the warrant was reportedly issued. However, Johnson isn’t pleased with the way the story has been reported, claiming the media doesn’t have all the facts.

He took to his Instagram story and issued out the following message to mixed martial arts (MMA) media.

“Everyone, I’m okay, nothing is going on,” Johnson said. “Media as usual don’t know the facts and what’s true. Nobody did a fact check they just started writing just to get hits. One day someone in the media is gonna regret not putting the facts and yapping just to yap just cuz they read something. Then y’all media clowns are gonna run with your tail between your legs. Watch.”

Aside from his legal issues, Johnson is expected to make his return to MMA competition next year at heavyweight. This is something MMA fans have been calling for ever since Johnson unexpectedly retired and began bodybuilding in his spare time.

Now, with an even more ridiculous physique to go with some of the scariest knockout power MMA has ever seen, Johnson is ready to terrorize the heavyweight division upon his return.

What do you make of Johnson’s comments after the recent reports?

A warrant was issued for former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson by the Palm Beach County on September 27.

Bloody Elbow obtained a court document revealing the warrant was issued after Johnson failed to make a court date stemming from a misdemeanor domestic battery charge from earlier this year. Johnson had accepted a plea deal for the charge, which included a court-mandated anger management program that he completed days before the warrant was issued.

The incident in which Johnson was charged occurred in Boca Raton, Florida back on May 6. Johnson was brought in by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after they received a 911 call from “Rumble’s” girlfriend. The caller was quoted as claiming she and Johnson were arguing when he picked her up in a “football hold” and carried them into another room.

Johnson admitted to lifting the woman up against her will, to which the arresting officer stated such an action is in violation of Florida’s domestic battery laws. The former light heavyweight title challenger landed a plea deal on August 23 which included an ordered 12-hour anger management program. Johnson was also ordered to comply with substance abuse evaluation and any recommended treatment, as well as pay the cost of prosecution and have no contact with the victim.

A warrant was also issued on August 28 when Johnson failed to comply with “special court ordered conditions.” Johnson also tested positive for marijuana in early August and failed to provide proof of a medical marijuana card. The warrant was later recalled. Aside from his legal troubles, Johnson is expected to make a return to the UFC at heavyweight in 2020.

Anthony Johnson is reportedly looking to come back to the Octagon in 2020 at heavyweight. The former light heavyweight title challenger last fought back at UFC 210 where he lost to Daniel Cormier.

He was massive at light heavyweight, but since his ‘retirement’ he became a bodybuilder and no doubt added more muscle and weight. At Submission Underground 9 he weighed 278 pounds.

Now, courtesy of a video from MMASound on Instagram, Anthony Johnson is hitting pads and looks massive.

It still is surprising to see Anthony Johnson wanting to return to the Octagon after what he said when he retired as he was worried about his health and CTE.

“My health, man,” Johnson said on Booker T’s Heated Conversations podcast (h/t Daily Star). “You hear about CTE and all this other stuff. Head injuries. You’re harming your body playing football and stuff like that, but this stuff can happen just as fast in mixed martial arts as any other sport because we’re constantly beating on each other. I love myself, you know what I’m saying? A lot of guys don’t think about that.”

In his career, Anthony Johnson, who is 35-years-old, is 22-6 in the UFC. He started his career out at welterweight where after just three professional fights got into the UFC. Yet, after moderate success, he was released and went to World Series of Fighting and Titan FC.

When he retuned, he did so at light heavyweight and looked much better as he went 3-0 including a knockout win over Alexander Gustafsson. He went onto to fight for the title twice but lost both bouts to Daniel Cormier. He also has notable knockout wins over Ryan Bader, Jimi Manuwa, and Glover Teixeira.

It is expected that Anthony Johnson will return in early 2020 and wants to do so against a ranked opponent.

Who do you think Anthony Johnson should fight in his heavyweight debut?
