Nate Diaz does whatever he wants. That couldn’t have been more evident at the UFC 241 open workouts earlier today (Wed. August 14, 2019) in California.

Diaz sparked up what looked to be like a joint on stage and smoked it. He then began passing it around to fans. Check out some footage below.

Diaz is undoubtedly a big supporter of CBD and marijuana. He famously smoked a vape pen following his UFC 202 war with Conor McGregor in 2016. That was the last fight he participated in, until this weekend, when he ends a near-three-year layoff. Diaz takes on Anthony “Showtime” Pettis in the co-main event of the UFC 241 pay-per-view (PPV).

It’s one of the most anticipated fights of the year and is arguably getting more hype than the heavyweight title main event. Daniel Cormier takes on the very man he took the heavyweight title from last year, Stipe Miocic. UFC 241 is one of the biggest cards of the year on paper.

But of course, with a name like Diaz taking on a longtime rival in a former champion, Pettis, it’s no surprise that it’s being dubbed as the people’s main event.

What do you think about Diaz sparking up a blunt at his UFC 241 open workouts?

The matchup between Diaz and Pettis is certainly an interesting one on paper. Both men are strikers first – Pettis being one of the most dynamic stand-up artists the sport has ever seen, and Diaz possessing some of the best boxing ability in the UFC. Both men are also extremely talented on the ground.

Pettis has been known to pull off ridiculous submissions off his back against even some of the highest-level Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners. That’s exactly what he faces in Diaz, a black belt in Gracie jiu-jitsu who can wrap you up in an instant. No matter where the fight goes, things are going to be very interesting Saturday night.

This weekend (Sat. August 17, 2019) a very personal matchup will go down between Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and Nate Diaz. The pair co-headline UFC 241 on pay-per-view (PPV).

Pettis vs. Diaz has been one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the year since its announcement. The argument can be made that more people are looking forward to the welterweight scrap than they are the actual main event – a heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.

Amidst the usual predictions from the mixed martial arts (MMA) community as a fight of this magnitude approaches, “Funky” Ben Askren has offered his take on Pettis vs. Diaz. Askren, a longtime training partner of Pettis, predicted on Twitter that “Showtime” makes the Stockton native look “real bad” inside the Octagon.

The matchup between the pair is certainly an interesting one. Pettis is one of the most dynamic strikers the sport has ever seen. His slick jiu-jitsu game off his back also makes him a threat when taking him to the ground. As for Diaz, he’s a black belt in Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has tremendous boxing to pair with it.

Of course, many fear ring rust could play a factor for Diaz, as he hasn’t competed in nearly three years since suffering a razor-close decision loss to Conor McGregor in 2016.

What do you think about Askren’s prediction for Pettis vs. Diaz this weekend?

This weekend, Nate Diaz and former lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis will meet inside the Octagon. They meet in the co-main event of UFC 241 on pay-per-view (PPV).

Things between Diaz and Pettis have been personal for years, but Pettis coach Duke Roufus believes this fight, already massive in its own right, could propel “Showtime” into an even bigger payday. Speaking on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show,” Roufus explained why he believes Pettis is on “a collision course” with Conor McGregor. (via MMA Junkie)

“That other fight that’s looming out there I think that’s going to pique a lot of interest when Anthony does the business Saturday, I see him and Conor McGregor being on a collision course,” Roufus said.

“I think it’s definitely going to get Conor’s attention when Anthony beats a guy that beat him and another guy that he won by close decision – especially if Anthony does what I think he’s capable of doing and stopping Nate Diaz.”

Roufus also said he believes Pettis was “the Conor before Conor was Conor,” with the flashy suits, finishes, etc. As far as the desire to fight McGregor, Roufus believes Pettis wants to get all the big challenges accomplished as his fighting career begins to wind down:

“I think Anthony’s trying to get those big challenges on the way out the door of his career,” Roufus said. “Anthony was the Conor before Conor was Conor, the kid with the flashy suits, the look, the style, the pizazz, and he could fight like that, so it would be the makings of quite the super fight.”

Do you think McGregor and Pettis will ever face each other inside the Octagon?

This weekend (Sat. August 17, 2019) one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the year will take place.

Nate Diaz returns to the Octagon after nearly a three-year layoff to take on Anthony Pettis at welterweight. There have been some personal issues between the pair over the years. According to Pettis’ coach, Duke Roufus, who spoke on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” yesterday (Mon. August 12, 2019), both Nick and Nate Diaz tried to jump Pettis at a nightclub several years ago.

“For years Nate has just attacked him,” Roufus said. “Not only verbally, but even in a nightclub, they tried to jump him, him and Nick. It gets to a point where stuff just boils over. I get the perspective of where Anthony is coming from. To me, Anthony reminds me a lot of Oscar De La Hoya or “Sugar” Ray Leonard, he’s that star fighter, he’s got that charisma.

“A lot of guys just – it’s not even professional, it’s more, these guys are jealous, envy of him. It causes a weird energy. Like Fernando Vargas tried to bully De La Hoya, De La Hoya knocked him out. Like Duran tried to do twice against “Sugar” Ray Leonard, “Sugar” Ray Leonard put it on Duran the second time.

“Like Mayorga tried to do to Oscar De La Hoya. So many guys try to bully Anthony, I love it, because it brings out the best in Anthony. Looking forward to it, sometimes fights are personal, and those are the fun ones if you ask me.”

Roufus is likely referencing a 2013 story involving the Diaz brothers and Pettis shortly after UFC 167. The Diaz brothers and Pettis got into a confrontation at a Las Vegas nightclub where one of the Diaz crew members said something that sparked drinks being thrown around, and security had to get involved.

However, Pettis denied ever coming face-to-face with either of the brothers. Regardless of what happened in the past, Diaz and Pettis will get the chance to settle the score this weekend in Anaheim.

What do you think about how personal the rivalry between Diaz and Pettis is? Who are you picking this weekend?

This weekend one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the year takes place – and it’s not even the main event.

UFC 241 will feature the return of longtime fan-favorite Nate Diaz. The Stockton native ends a three-year layoff to settle the score with ex-lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. The pair have had issues with one another over the years, and they’ll finally get the chance to address them inside the Octagon.

All the action goes down from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Saturday night (August 17, 2019). Diaz’s last fight resulted in a Majority Decision loss to Conor McGregor in their UFC 202 rematch in 2016. As for Pettis, he is coming off a massively successful debut at 170 pounds, knocking out Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson with a superman punch.

Diaz and Pettis will meet at welterweight in the co-main event to the heavyweight title bout that will end the night. Daniel Cormier puts his strap up for grabs against Stipe Miocic, the very man he took the heavyweight title from last summer.
