The message from Conor McGregor to the MMA media has become clear: Any criticism or besmirching from fighter-analysts is subject to a swift retaliation. UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith hasn’t exactly been the biggest fan of Conor McGregor‘s recent antics on social media since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, and he ended up being the victim of a Twitter verbal assault courtesy of the Irish star.
It all started with Smith did a recent interview with LowKickMMA’s James Lynch, in which he went in on McGregor for his recent attacks on his rival, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and his family. Smith and countless others have had issues with McGregor’s comments specifically targeting Nurmagomedov’s children and deceased father, Abdulmanap in since-deleted tweets.
McGregor responded quickly to Smith’s interview with Lynch, referring to him as a “big zombie” in a tweet that has also been deleted from his page. Smith got the opportunity to address McGregor’s recent bizarre behavior and more specifically, his attacks on him.
“People are pretending like I’m going way out of my way. What fans don’t realize is none of us went out of our way to talk about Conor,” Smith said on a recent appearance on MMA on SiriusXM. “Be mad at the media. They keep asking the questions about Conor. It’s not me going out of my way, I just answered the question that was asked.”
Smith’s opinions mean more now than ever before as the light heavyweight contender has had a successful career in the podcast industry in addition to his time training MMA and competing in the UFC octagon. Smith has won back-to-back fights including a nasty TKO over Jimmy Crute due to a doctor’s stoppage.
McGregor had displayed a series of unusual behavior since falling to UFC 264 after a doctor’s stoppage following the first five minutes of action. He is in the middle of recovery from his nasty leg break and is expected to return to the UFC sometime in 2022.
What are your thoughts on Anthony Smith’s recent comments about Conor McGregor?
Conor McGregor has fired back at Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith. In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Smith gave his opinion on McGregor’s recent social media attacks on several prominent MMA figures including Khabib Nurmagomedov. “I can’t handle the tweeting stuff,” Smith said. “I didn’t like it when he was attacking Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and his family and […]
Conor McGregor has fired back at Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith.
“I can’t handle the tweeting stuff,” Smith said. “I didn’t like it when he was attacking Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and his family and his religion and the personal stuff. Me and Luke Rockhold have gone back-and-forth several times and neither one of us has ever attacked each other personally. Even Jon (Jones) and I — I mean, it’s got a little personal but it hasn’t really crossed over to like, too much. He’s made some jokes and he thinks he’s funny and whatever. but it’s never gotten to that point where we were attacking each other’s families.“
“With Conor, it’s just — it’s too far, it’s way too far,” Smith explained. “Take all this fighting bullsh*t out of the picture — like people get shot for a lot less than that just walking down the street, I don’t know. Maybe I just grew up (sic) different. Maybe I’ve grew (sic) up different and I’ve seen some crazier sh*t.“
“Like I’m just so shocked that he (McGregor) has the balls to — like I don’t understand why you feel so free to say things like that, like is he really that untouchable and really just feels like he’s just free to say what he wants?” Smith continued. “Maybe, I guess he’s got a bunch of security around him. There’s some people that you can’t talk like that about. It’s just — it’s weird to me.“
On Saturday, McGregor took to Twitter to respond to Smith’s comments.
“@lionheartasmith who’s getting shot for what? What the fuck are you saying you big zombie,” McGregor wrote on social media. “The disrespect coming my way consistently is what is causing my response. Are you stupid? You do not see this? Fuck off and leave me alone you losers. You nobodies. I’m preparing to return.”
Do you agree with Conor McGregor? Is he simply responding to people attacking him?

‘Lionheart’ is currently scheduled to square off against Ryan Spann on September 18. Meanwhile, Prochazka is expected to play backup for the upcoming light-heavyweight title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira which will take place at UFC 267 on October 30.
In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Smith expressed his admiration for Prochazka who he believes more than earned his backup spot with a fantastic performance against Dominick Reyes last time out.
“I would love to fight that guy. It just looks like it’s so much fun.” Smith said. “And honestly, he fought Dominick Reyes exactly how I would fight Dominick Reyes. Just get in tight, make it ugly, make him uncomfortable, don’t give him any space.”
The former light-heavyweight title challenger talked up a future fight between him and Prochazka.
“It would be bananas. It would be chaos,” Smith said. “Those are the kinds of fights that everybody’s really, really excited (about). I don’t have to like, be super focused on anything. I don’t have to worry about extra striking or extra jujitsu or extra wrestling. You’ve just got to get your sword as sharp as you can get it and just go in there and swing the god damn thing. That’s a lot of fun to me.
“Behind all that flashy unpredictability and the spinning sh*t and just the craziness that he does, it’s just pressure. That’s all he’s doing, he’s just pressuring people, and that’s what I like to do,” Smith added. “So, I feel like it would just be two hammers banging into each other. It would be a lot of fun. I feel like it would look like a really incredible game of bumper cars. You know, it’s just, you have to go in there and figure it out.”

Anthony Smith isn’t buying Conor McGregor’s excuse for losing at UFC 264.
The Irishman suffered a nasty leg break in round one of his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier earlier this month.
McGregor has since claimed that he had pre-existing stress fractures in his leg heading into the fight. The 33-year-olds claim has been met with skepticism by fighters, fans, doctors, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Smith says McGregor’s pre-existing injury excuse isn’t valid as all fighters enter the Octagon less than 100 percent.
“Everyone who loses has an excuse. It’s new for Conor to be like that,” Smith said on SiriusXM’s Fight Nation. “I’m not the excuses guy but in my circle, all my friends know what’s going on. They know pre and they know post. Like, ‘I know you’re never gonna say this but what was going on here? I know you’ll never say this publicly because you don’t make excuses.’ And I’ll absolutely tell my friends what’s going on. (They) knew that my hand was broken going into the Glover (Teixeira) fight and I never said anything about it because it’s not an excuse! Glover probably had a broken hand. We all are injured.
“Going into the Jimmy Crute fight – I can talk about it because I won – my leg was f*cked. Totally f*cked. I couldn’t kick almost the entire training camp. I had this huge, huge hematoma and I’m lucky the commission didn’t catch it because I don’t know if they would have even let me fight. The point of that is we’re all banged up going in. The sport is very hard and you put your body – the fight’s the easiest part. Making it through a training camp as uninjured as possible is the tough part.”
‘Lionheart’ is confident Poirier was just as banged up as McGregor heading into UFC 264.
“I would say Conor wasn’t any more hurt than Dustin was going into that fight,” Smith said. “That’s not me saying Conor wasn’t banged up or his legs weren’t bothering him or his shin wasn’t cracked up or whatever, but he wasn’t any more injured that Dustin Poirier was. That’s my perspective at it from an athlete.
“It’s easy for a fan or someone who has never done it to say, ‘Oh, he was hurt.’ We’re all hurt. Every single one of us, every single time we fight. There’s not one person that can ever say they go in 100 percent healthy. So his excuses are very invalid to me. To the general public, it makes sense that they people would buy into that excuse but Conor knows that all of us don’t buy it because we’re all hurt too. That’s how I look at it, but he’s not lobbying to us. It’s to the general public, the buyers, the PPV buyers. Those are the people he needs to convince but he knows he’s never gonna convince us.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)
